2. Student Involvement We help our students get involved in the community by providing ways to volunteer their time for others. Middle school students create signs for the elementary schools. High school students can work with GET PLUGGED IN! We provide community service hours for our youth.

The City of Moreno Valley provides crossing guard training. • Volunteers are assigned positions as bus leaders, safe route volunteers, parking lot patrols, site leaders and event coordinators. • Monthly each school site celebrates walking/biking in an educational assembly geared to have fun and educate our children on pedestrian/biking and personal safety.

We address the personal and community barriers that prevent individuals from obtaining and holding jobs. GET PLUGGED IN will also encourage our community participants by introducing a self-empowerment series designed to inspire individuals to attain personal growth.

5. Our impact Our MVSRTS participating schools had no (zero) school site incidents or pedestrian accidents since we started in 2011. Community Now/MVSRTS has partnered with the Public Works department to provide new stop signs, add stop lights, sidewalks, crosswalks, and more at our local schools. • Our students learn the rules of the road and personal safety skills which they use daily as they navigate our neighborhoods. • Community Now volunteers are excited about life and learn career skills, safety training, empowerment seminars and a sense of belonging to an organization that cares about them and their families. • We promote and will hire many of our paid positions from our volunteer force. Enhancing the economic lives of those who care about our community and strive for a better life.

6. How We Have Expanded The Safe Routes to School Program was established in Moreno Valley on June 3, 2011. 2011-2012 MVSRTS completed the year with 4 Schools participating, 4 walking school buses, 12 volunteers and 41 students. 2012-2013 MVSRTS 11 schools participating, 6 walking school buses, over 150 volunteers and over 1,000 students. 2013-2014 Opened a Not-For Profit Organization called Community Now. partnered with organizations working in our community who share our passion for healthy living, safe environments and personal growth. This new expansion of our program is called “GET PLUGGED IN”. Our Long-term goal is to install our program across the nation; reaching out to a larger number of people who would otherwise find it difficult to find services such as ours.

7. Get Plugged In • Tutoring • Common Core Curriculum • The Mission of this program is to empower student achievement one student at a time to ensure that no child would ever be left behind. The tutorial program is targeted at youth, kindergarten - 12th grade. Tutoring will be held after school. Community Now has enhanced its program to include FREE Tutoring and Mentoring Mentoring Sigma Beta Xi Inc. Provides male students with the support and guidance necessary to achieve academic success, business etiquette, leadership skills, and service to their community. To ensure that young men do not continue a cycle of poverty and hunger, the district and organization partnership created Academies for Young Men on middle school and high school campuses to provide male students with four (4) core pillars of mentoring, school readiness, community service, and leadership development We are seeking a mentoring program for females and hope to find a partner soon.

8. Program Funding Opportunities Community Now partnered with the City of Moreno Valley and were awarded a grant that provides funds for safety education, temporary employment for some of our community members and will provide sidewalks at two local schools: Badger Springs and Chaparral Hills. There are many funding opportunities through partnerships and collaborative grants from private and governmental agencies. We welcome community partners and look forward to working together as we provide needed social services to our communities, families and friends.
