  1. COURSE SELECTION Grade 10

  2. Sophomore Year • Take college prep and / or honors classes and work hard to get the best grades possible. • Get involved, both in and out of school. • Take the PSAT test in October. • Take the PLAN test in December. • Visit the Warren County Career Center in December. • Take the Ohio Graduation Tests (OGT) in March. • Select 11th grade courses in April.

  3. Graduation Requirements • English: 4 credits • Math: 4 credits • Science: 3 credits • Social Studies: 3 credits • Health: ½ credit • Physical Education: ½ credit • Business / Technology, Fine Arts, Foreign Language: 1 credit • Electives: 4 credits • TOTAL = 20 credits

  4. Honors Diploma (may take regular or honors courses) • Must earn all but ONE of the following: • English: 4 credits • Math: 4 credits (Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2) • Science: 4 credits (Chemistry, Physics) • Social Studies: 4 credits • Foreign Language: 3 credits (or 2 years of 2 languages) • Fine Arts (art, music): 1 credit • Grade Point Average: 3.5+ (unweighted) • ACT or SAT: 27+ or 1210+

  8. Math • Algebra 1A, 1B, 1C • Geometry A & B • Honors Geometry A & B • Algebra 2A & 2B • Honors Algebra 2A & 2B • Pre-Calculus 1 (Trigonometry) & Pre-Calculus 2 • Honors Trigonometry & Honors Pre-Calculus

  9. Social Studies • American History 1 & 2 • Honors American History 1 & 2 • AP (Advanced Placement) United States History

  10. Other Required Courses • Health • PE (if not completed in 9th grade)

  11. Elective Courses • Courses other than the core courses (English, Math, Science, Social Studies) required for graduation.

  12. Foreign Language • Spanish 1A & 1B • Spanish 2A & 2B

  13. Physical Education • P.E. Fundamentals 2 • P.E. Option: must complete and turn in paperwork before season begins • Summer school P.E.: June 10-25 or June 26-July 15; cost is $100 per session; can only take one session

  14. English electives • Journalism A • Journalism B • Radio (C or better in 9th grade English) • Drama • Creative Writing • Speech and Debate • Yearbook 1 & 2 (need to turn in application to Mrs. Van Mil)

  15. Music • Music Theory A & B • Select Women’s Chorale 1 & 2 (must audition) • Men’s Choir 1 & 2 • Women’s Choir 1 & 2 • Mixed Choir 1 & 2 • Select Mixed Choir 1 & 2 (must audition) • Concert Band 1 & 2 • Symphonic Band 1 & 2 (must audition) • Marching Band (outside of school day; must also sign up for Concert or Symphonic Band)

Advanced Placement (AP) courses • AP courses are significantly more demanding (expectations, prep time & level of difficulty) and may require summer reading. • Students may be charged a course fee (non-refundable). • Students must pay the fee to take the exam. • Students are required to take the AP exam in May. • Students must sign and submit an AP Enrollment Agreement form (turn in with registration materials).

  21. On-line courses • Elective courses (must fill out application) • Student license fee = $150 • Lab fee = $50-$100 • May take on-line courses at school or at home • OLS = on-line courses at school • OLH = on-line courses at home

  22. Athletic Eligibility • Must pass 5 one credit classes per year • Maintain a minimum 1.0 GPA • Eligibility for fall sports = 4th quarter of this year

  23. Drop / Add Policy • Students may only make schedule changes within the first five (5) days of the semester. • Students may not drop A-B courses without penalty after 1st semester unless the student earned an F for 1st semester (ex. Calculus A & B). • Students who drop A-B courses after 1st semester who earned a C or better will receive a WF (withdraw fail) for 2nd semester.
