  2. Today we remember….

  3. Those who have lit our way...

  4. Those whose lives made ripples that have reached us....

  5. Those who have gone ahead of us… …whether that was hundreds of years before us, or a couple of years ago.

  6. Today we remember….

  7. Abraham & Sarah Who left their home behind to set out on a journey into the desert without knowing where they were going, but who also disbelieved the promises that God had given them.

  8. Moses Who saw the burning bush and was chosen to to free God’s people from slavery in Egypt, but who tried to turn God down because he wasn’t good at speaking...

  9. The prophets Who spoke out against the problems they saw in their societies, and who have inspired people throughout history to take a stand against injustice.

  10. Mary & Elizabeth One of them probably a teenage mother, one of them an older mother...

  11. Lydia An unlikely woman who became one of the first non-Jewish Christians in Europe.

  12. Jean Vanier The founder of the L’Arche community, which offers homes and spiritual support to people with learning disabilities. But he started by inviting two men to move out of institutions and live in his house.

  13. Brother Roger of Taize Who started an international religious community by providing a safe house for Jews at the start of WW2. He looks otherwordly in this photo, but he was still human and fallible in his interactions with his brother monks.

  16. In remembering we carry them with us…

  17. Knowing that some things in life cannot be fixed; they can only be carried.

  18. Who has lit the way for us? What ripples do we want to leave?

Lighter of lights – illumine us Fire of fires – thaw us Power of powers – strengthen us Lover of lovers – warm us Teller of tales – encourage us Destroyer of darkness – save us Touchstone of truth – examine us Summoner of stars – amaze us Wellspring of wisdom – weather us Water of life – refresh us Dancer of days – delight in us Breath of the universe – bless us Prayer by Ruth Burgess
