  2. What Is The DEA? • Drug Enforcement Administration • Investigate major illicit drug activity in and outside of the country.

  3. DEA History • Created by Richard Nixon in July 1973 • Established to Combat “an all-out global war on the drug menace. • Had 1,470 agents and a budget of less than $75 million. • Now has nearly 5000 agents and a budget of $2.02 billion.

  4. Forensics • Evidence includes fingerprints and illicit substances. • Forensic chemists analyze evidence for the presence of controlled substances. • Fingerprint Specialists assist in crime scenes. • Forensics computer examiners recover and analyze digital evidence.

  6. DEA Cases • Operation Bronx Tale (2006) • Drug enterprise that used swallorers to transport heroin from Panama to U.S. • Arrested over 20 individuals involved. • Used Forensic Chemistry and Computer Analysis • Found evidence off heroin and recovered wire receipts
