  2. RYLA = Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Focus: Building Leadership skills, character & self confidence in High School-aged kids who have demonstrated leadership abilities • Attendees: • 96 Delegates (High schoolstudents) • 12 Jr Counselors • 12 Adult Advisors

  3. The logistics…. 2020 Dates: Training for JCs & Adult Advisors – January 12RYLA – January 17-20 Location: Chapel Rock, Prescott, AZ Transportation is by chartered bus Cost: Paid by sponsoring Rotary Club $400 – Delegates & Jr Counselors $200 – Adult Advisors & Admin Team Members

What happens during the 4-day program Delegates work in teams of 8 + 1 Jr Counselor + 1 Adult Advisor • True Colors – Learning your personality style, it’s strengths & weaknesses • Leadership Skills modules on : • Leadership & Influence • Public Speaking • Ethical Decision Making • Conflict Resolution • Project Planning SITUATIONAL LEADERSHIP Low Able High Low Willing

Understanding what it means to be a Rotarian Treasure Hunt to learn about Rotary & Yourself Rotary Programs for Young People THE FOUR-WAY TEST of the things we think, say, or do First Is it the TRUTH? Second Is it FAIR to all concerned? Third Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? Fourth Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

  9. What MAKEs SUCCESSFUL?

Having a Capable and Energetic Staff • Junior Counselors – Ages 17-19 • Have attended RYLA as a Delegate • Lead the activities and guide the team • Adult Advisors – Ages 20+ • Coach and mentor the Junior Counselors • Provide guidance and insight to Delegates • Admin Team • Develop the program & budget, then plan, organize & manage all logistics • Provide overall coordination of activities at RYLA • Select the Junior Counselors & Adult Advisors

Club Support is Essential • Rotary Clubs • Reserve spaces for Delegates beginning July 1 • Recruit, interview & select Delegates • Recruit & interview Jr Counselor & Adult Advisor candidates • Provide critical financial support • $400 to send each Delegate or Jr Counselor • $200 to sponsor an Adult Advisor or Admin Team member Applications available at www.rotaryd5500.org. Due by November 1st

Club Keys to Success with RYLA • Select Delegates who will benefit from RYLA • Establish a connection with your RYLA candidate(s) and their parents so they understand the opportunity offered • Keep in touch with your Delegates • Be sure they are still planning to attend • Have everything they need (warm clothes, sleeping bag, etc) • Know where and when to be at the bus stop • Notify Barbara immediatelyif your Delegate(s) can’t attend • Invite your Delegate(s) to speak to your club in February or March
