  1. Presentation prepared by: Kelly Pinto, Customer Relations Coordinator Fort Worth Post OfficePerry Penn, Manager TransportationFort Worth District "Transportation Issues in Postal and Shipping Delivery "

  2. Tarrant regional traffic/construction affects the Fort Worth District’s mail collection and delivery. This includes: Sq. miles:114,000 Post offices: 414 Deliveries: 2.02M

  3. Fort Worth Processing & Distribution Center (P&DC) located at 4600 Mark IV Pkwy, Fort Worth and North Texas P&DC located at 951 W. Bethel Rd, Coppell, TX have interchange of transportation and processing for mail to be processed and transported between the facilities. There are approximately 25 miles between the facilities.

  4. When Fort Worth trips are delayed going to the N. Texas facility, it delays the canceling process in the N. Texas facility. This delays the return of overnight mail back to the Fort Worth P&DC.

  5. In turn, this delays mail going to the rest of the 414 Post offices, over 114,000 square miles, containing 2.02 million delivery addresses.

  6. When trips are delayed going into Fort Worth from N. Texas, Delivery Point Sequencing processing is delayed for dispatching mail to the Post Offices (remember, 414) served by the FortWorth P&DC. Delivery Point Sequencing mail is mail that is sorted address to address so that the letter carrier can walk/drive and deliver in order. The opposite? The carrier spending hours sorting the letters by hand in the office, getting to the street much later in the day, delays timely delivery to customers, delivering mail later into the night.

  7. IMPACT: Construction delays causing late processing results in additional costs to the US Postal Service.

  8. The Fort Worth P&DC sees an increase in overtime for: 1) Plant employees. 2) Postal Service vehicle drivers 3) Late trip costs to Highway Contract Routes

  9. Post offices are impacted by the late trips as well: an increase to work hours and overtime for clerks, carriers, and mail handlers. # Employees in the Fort Worth District: 7,268

  10. Additional impacts from construction delays: • Express Mail service delayed • Service impact: Express Mail guarantee • Delayed Express Mail results in reimbursement of full cost to customer…. – • Reduces USPS service standard scores

  11. FACT: 85% of your postal needs can be conducted from the comfort of your home. So we need to be able to get to your home timely in order to take care of your mailing/shipping needs!!! • Just some of our services provided from your home: • Stamps By Mail • Package pickup • Calculate and print postage at www.usps.com • Order FREE shipping boxes, labels

  12. CONSTRUCTION TRAFFIC ISSUES Without prior notification of lane closures, we cannot seek relief using alternate routes of travel.

  13. Website notifications are of tremendous help, providing detailed lane closures by actual time lanes will be closed on each date and showing alternate routing of traffic during the lane closure on a map with highlighted alternate routes.) Includes a ‘Daily Detour’ map. What is most helpful: I-N-F-O-R-M-A-T-I-O-N Full highway closures, night closures and detour maps allow us to make alterations that result in fewer delays. We’d like to thank the two major construction networks that provide that information!!
