What is in your packets: • Registration book • Registration contract • 4 year plan • Instructions for entering your class requests into infinite Campus **Note: You can access the registration guide on-line at the HS website: Steamboatschools.net; click on HS; click on counseling tab; click on registration & enrollment; click on registration guide. ** This power point is also on the website if you need to refer to it as you register!

  6. Graduation requirements What is required to graduate from Steamboat Springs High School?

A Total of 25 Credits A year long class = 1.0 credit A semester class = .5 credits • Business/Career/Technology – 2.0 credits • Fine Arts – 1.0 credit • Language Arts – 4.0 credits • Speech - .5 credit • Math – 2.0 credits of C or higher • Personal Financial Literacy - .5 credit • Physical Education (P.E.) – 1.5 credits • Science – 3.0 credits • Social Studies – 3.0 credits • World Language – 1.0 credit • Electives – 6.5 Total of 25 Credits

  8. WHAT YOU NEED TO GRADUATE

How do you earn credits? • Each semester = .5 credits A year long class = 1.0 credit • Grades do not begin over each quarter, but continue to accumulate through the semester • Freshman is a 1/3 of your transcript that colleges will see. It’s important to start off well! Learn to get help early! • You must earn a D or better to earn credit, except in Math. You must earn a C or better for Math credit. • If you fail a class that is needed for graduation, you must repeat the course or participate in credit recovery options. • For certain classes, you may earn credits with a D but my not be allowed to move to the next level.

What your 9th grade year looks like! 7 Classes each semester • 3 classes will automatically be loaded for you: • ESP • English 9 • Geography and Civics • Math (dependent upon teacher recommendation) • World Language (recommended) • 2-3 classes of your choice: • Health (must be taken as Freshman or Sophomore only) or Team Sports & Fitness • Fundamentals of Business/Career/Tech • Speech • Fine Arts

  12. TIMELINE & Overview Registration opens today! You will have this week, Monday-Thursday to: 1.) Fill out your Registration Contract and get signatures from your teachers (as needed) and your parents/guardians 2.) Enter your request in Infinite Campus (IC) and print the completed request form 3.) Turn in your registration contract with the print off of the IC request form to the counseling office NO LATER THAN THIS THURSDAY FEBRUARY 27th at 4:00 pm

  13. NOTE: If you do not meet this deadline you will not be allowed to make schedule changes!!! Your counselor will make your schedule based on a typical freshman schedule. You will not have the option of changing your schedule in the fall.

  14. 4 Year Plan Your packet has a four-year plan form. This was provided to help you begin looking ahead and be thoughtful in choosing courses. Practice by looking at graduation requirements in your registration book. Based on graduation requirements and your interests – what would your 4-year plan look like?

Things To Plan foR & Think about when you are developing your 4- year plan Remember: Counselors will be available during lunch on Tuesday and Wednesday to answer questions and help you develop your schedule • 1.Graduation Requirements pg. 7 • 2. AP Classes • 3. CMC Classes • 4. Diplomas of Emphasis pg.8 • 5. Unique Offerings • 6. NCAA Eligibility pg16 • 7. College Entrance Requirements • Please refer to the registration guide on the SSHS website for specific information about each of these. Plan ahead to make the most of your time at SSHS!

What Colleges Want To See From You…. • See the HEAR chart with requirements (see registration guide page: 15 ) • AP and other rigorous course work • 2-3 levels of one World Language ex: Spanish I, Spanish II, Spanish III • Involvement in School……Join a club or sport! • Community Service Hours (voluntary not those required for diversion ) • Demonstrate Leadership • A rigorous curriculum ** Note: You need to check with your desired college on specific requirements to ensure you are meeting their specific expectations.

  17. Thoughtful Planning For A Successful Year • Your requests are what determine the classes that are offered • Take time to discuss your plans with your counselor and parents • Make sure that the courses you want are on your contract and you put them in Infinite Campus.

  22. TO FINALIZE YOUR REGISTRATION PROCESS: You have to turn in …… 1.) Completed registration contracts with signatures 2.) Print off of IC Course Requests with a parent signature Turn in your registration form and Infinite Campus Requests and turn it into the counseling office by 4:00 this Thursday, February 27th. Remember: A counselor will be available this week in the counseling office Tuesday and Wednesday at lunch to provide help and support you through the registration process.

Review • What is the first step in the registration process? • When is your registration contract and IC course request form due to counselors? • What is the consequence of not completing this process? • When can you get help from counselors this week on registration and academic planning? • What are several of the things you need to be thinking about when you complete the registration process? • What is the absolute deadline for turning in your registration contract and IC course request form?
