  1. RECAP Why is Smoking one of the causes of health inequalities? Which section of society is more likely to smoke? Why? Give an example of how where you live can lead to health inequalities.

  2. Lifestyle and Alcohol Look at the facts and figures box on p.107 and write down the statistic that shocks or surprises you the most. Give a reason to explain why.

  3. Alcohol Abuse • Alcohol contributes to 8500 hospital admissions per year in Glasgow • The youngest person to be found with liver damage was a 17 year old boy who had been drinking since he was 12. • Deprivation can be linked to alcohol abuse. • Alcohol consumption not the only reason it causes so much harm- it’s the risks such as poor diet or drug use and environmental risks such as drinking on the street.

  4. Alcohol and Society • Using p.108 answer the following questions: • What did a recent health study conclude about men and alcohol. Why could this present health problems? (paragraphs 1+2) • How are Greater Glasgow and Clyde health services tackling alcohol misuse? (paragraph 3) • What is MAV trying to do? What is the aim?
