  1. Charting the Course of sftp and the Patient Data Backup Sharon Smith

  2. Key Objectives: • What is sftp • sftp setup options • Print scheduler setup for the Patient Data Backup • Information included on the Patient Data Backup Report

  3. Charting your course

  4. FTP – File Transfer Protocol • FTP = File Transfer Protocol • Popular method of transferring files between two remote systems • Should only be used in limited cases • Used with trusted networks

  5. SFTP – SSH Secure File Transfer Protocol • SFTP = SSH File Transfer Protocol / Secure File Transfer Protocol • Secure File Transfer Protocol • Piggy-back on an SSH connection • Supports full security and authentication functionality of SSH • Replaced legacy FTP and replacing FTP/S • Provides all functionality offered by FTP and FTP/S • More secure and reliable • Easier configuration • Protects against password sniffing • Protects integrity of data, using encryption and cryptographic hash functions • Authenticates both the server and the user

  6. Determine the option

  7. Securely Copy Patient Data Backup Reports • Option 1: SCC creates SFTP account on AIX servers • Option 2: Client provides SFTP account credentials to connect to remote storage

  8. Securely Copy PDB Reports – Option 1 • SCC creates SFTP account on AIX servers • Must be done on both MAINSYS and AUXSYS if 2-server configuration • Client establishes SFTP connection from “ftp hub” • Grabs file • Generates the key • Sends public key to SCC • SCC adds public key to the ~sftp/authorized_keys • SCC configures software to send PDB reports to SFTP home directory on AIX server • Client initiates copying files from AIX server to storage

  9. Securely Copy PDB Reports – Option 2 • Client provides SFTP account credentials to connect to remote storage (authorized_keys) • SCC establishes SFTP connection from AIX server • SCC generates the key • Client adds the key to the proper location on their SFTP server • SCC configures software to send PDB reports using SFTP connection directly to remote storage

  10. Land in sight

  11. Why use the Patient Data Backup? • The patient data backup contains pertinent patient history • Used by end users when SoftBank is down

Patient Data Backup Default Settings • Patient’s Last Name • Patient’s First Name • Patient’s Middle Name • Medical Record Number • Date of Birth • ABO/Rh • Patient Messages w/Comments • Last Specimen Collected Date • Last Specimen Outdate • Last Transfusion – Cellular/Non-cellular • Transfusion Reactions • Antibodies

  13. Patient Data Backup Generated by SoftBank Default Settings

  14. Possible Settings to be Added to Patient Data Backup in SoftBank 25.5.5.0 • Last Specimen Collected Date • Last Specimen Outdate Date • Last Specimen Outdate Time • Positive Patient Antibodies • Recent Antibody Screen Collected Date • Recent Antibody Screen Collected Time • Recent Antibody Screen Interpretation • Last Transfusion Type – Cellular/Non-cellular • Physician’s Impressions • Patient’s Full Name • Patient’s Last Name • Patient’s First Name • Patient’s Middle Name • Medical Record Number • Social Security Number • Auxiliary ID • MPI# • External ID • ABO/Rh • Patient special messages w/comments

  15. Patient Data Backup Generated by SoftBank with Additional Settings

  16. Patient Data Backup on Print Scheduler • Run the Patient Data Backup Report Automatically • Setup an additional run for scheduled down times

  17. Patient Data Backup Setup in 4.0 • Utilities – Printer Scheduler • Locate BBPDBREP

  18. Setup 4.0 continued • Determine days of week and times the report should run

  19. Patient Data Backup Setup in 4.5 • Reports – Printer Scheduler • Locate BBPDBREP

  20. Setup 4.5 continued • Determine days of week and times the report should run

  21. Points of Interest • Parameters – Date Range; Special Message Comments • All patients are included. • Report can be set up to run from one site • File can be copied and moved to other sites specified location • Client controls who has access to view the information in the file
