In Situ Closed (ISC) Definition • Definition: Closed in place following approved processes that meet all regulatory requirements • ISC does not eliminate institutional or environmental controls required by law or regulators • Assets are closed in place • ISC is a status and a usage code in the FIMS active data base • In situ closed assets will not be archived • Use of in situ closed varies between property types
In Situ Buildings • Building description: • Permanent entombment of a building in place. • Examples would include: • Filling a standing or collapsed building with grout • Completely covering a building with grout, soil or other suitable material creating a large mound • Simply abandoning a building in place would not meet the definition of in situ closed
In Situ Trailers • Trailers: • Do not meet the criteria for in situ closed.
In Situ OSF’s • OSF Description of ISC : • Closed structures: • Filling a standing or collapsed structure with grout • Completely covering a structure with grout , sand, soil or other suitable soil
FIMS Guidance • For Buildings: • Leave asset in FIMS active data base • Change Status to: “In Situ Closed” or “In Situ Closed Long Term Monitoring (LTM)” • Usage Code will be automatically be set to “208” • FIMS will automatically update the utilization percentage to zero
FIMS Guidance Con’t • For OSF’s: • Leave in FIMS active data base • Change Status to: “In Situ Closed” or “In Situ Closed Long Term Monitoring (LTM)” • Usage Code will be automatically be set to “2008”
