  2. 4X4 BLOCK SCHEDULING STUDENTS TAKE 3-4 CLASSES EACH QUARTER CLASSES MEET FOR 90 MINUTES EACH DAY TRADITIONAL COURSES ARE COMPLETED IN 18 WEEKS ALLOWS FOR ACCELERATION IN A VARIETY OF CURRICULUM AREAS

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS • STUDENTS MUST EARN A MINIMUM OF 42 CREDITS IN ORDER TO GRADUATE • 1 CREDIT is earned for each 9-week course passed with a grade of D- or better • STUDENTS MUST PASS ALGEBRA 1 AND ENGLISH 10 END OF COURSE ASSESSMENTS (ECA) • STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO COMPLETE THE INDIANA CORE 40 REQUIREMENTS IN ORDER TO EARN A DIPLOMA

FOUR YEAR PLAN • Start with the end in mind • what are the student’s post-secondary goals (educational and career)? • indicate a diploma type • plan for special programs • check curriculum guide • pay attention to pre-requisites • check curriculum guide • Work “backwards” • Students, parents, & counselors can re-visit and revise the 4-year plan periodically throughout high school

REQUIRED COURSES FOR FRESHMAN • Choice Areas • English 9: Regular or Honors • by recommendation • honors requires High Ability qualification AND summer reading assignment • Math • by recommendation • departmental policy for advancement • Teacher Recommendations • based on 1 semester of 8th grade work • discuss with middle school teachers & high school counselors • some flexibility is possible: final grades will be reviewed & changes may be made

  11. ALGEBRA Students will be placed in this courseENRICHMENT according to grades, test scores, and teacher recommendations. GEOMETRY** If you receive a C+ or higher for both semesters of Algebra I during middle school AND pass the ECA, you can choose to start with Geometry. ALGEBRA I* If you did not take Algebra I in middle school, received a C or below in Algebra I during middle school, OR do not pass the ECA, you should start with Algebra I. MATH…WHERE DO I START? *Algebra 1 grades earned at AMS will appear and stay on the AHS transcript; the course can be repeated and the higher grade will be used in gpa calculations **Algebra 1 recommendations will be reviewed utilizing ECA scores at the end of the school year.

THE HERE AND NOW • Athletic Eligibility • student-athletes must earn at least 3 credits each grade reporting period in order to play on a school team (IHSAA requirement) • individual coaches may have additional academic and behavioral requirements • Harmony Online Parent Access • view student grades, attendance, assignments, etc • Contact AMS to set up access for the remainder of the year; access will continue in the fall
