Boca del Río Costa de Oro Rotary Club Background The Boca del Rio Costa de Oro Rotary Club has supported with its own resources the development of two public elementary schools in the urban area. Part of this support has been the development of their Libraries.With that experience and the hope of getting support of an international partner through a global grant, we seek a more ambitious goal:

  3. Boca del Río Costa de Oro Rotary Club PROJECT OF LIBRARIES DEVELOPMENT IN THE PUBLIC ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS IN THE NEIGHBORING MUNICIPALITIES OF VERACRUZ Desktop Computer and a Barcode Scanner Book Shelves Ventilation Chairs and Tables Ilumination

  4. Boca del Río Costa de Oro Rotary Club Organization For the planning process, we selected a committee of four members with the right profile. The project manager, Director of Library Services Unit of the Veracruzana University, two entrepreneurs in industrial processes and an architect; committee that was widen lately.

  5. Boca del Río Costa de Oro Rotary Club Planning We designed a survey form for schools to know the available equipment, lighting, ventilation and the description of potential areas for libraries.

  6. Boca del Río Costa de Oro Rotary Club Planning We asked for help to state and local authorities for selecting schools beneficiaries.

  7. Boca del Río Costa de Oro Rotary Club Planning 11 schools were visited and surveyed by members of the committee. With that information we made our diagnosis.

  8. Boca del Río Costa de Oro Rotary Club Diagnosis: Schools have a little collection of books, in addition, it is not classified and is out of reach of children.

  9. Boca del Río Costa de Oro Rotary Club Diagnosis: The spaces available to library have a lack of privacy, and inadequate lighting and ventilation; therefore, it is poorly used.

  10. Boca del Río Costa de Oro Rotary Club Diagnosis: Principals and teachers, organize empirically the book collection.

  11. Boca del Río Costa de Oro Rotary Club Diagnosis: With the diagnosis, we made a list of necessities. Schools need: More books.

  12. Boca del Río Costa de Oro Rotary Club Diagnosis: Schools need: Adequate shelving for children's libraries.

  13. Boca del Río Costa de Oro Rotary Club Diagnosis: Library schools needed Computer System to classify the books and create the library catalog. Also needed , label, set up a library loan system and title search.

  14. Boca del Río Costa de Oro Rotary Club Diagnosis: Spaces redesigned to accommodate libraries with adequate lighting and ventilation.

Boca del Río Costa de Oro Rotary Club Implementation: The implementation will be carried out by: • The School Libraries Committee of the Boca del Río Costa de Oro Rotary Club. • Central Library: Unidad de Servicios Bibliotecarios y de Información at Veracruzana University • The Library School Committee at each school.

Boca del Río Costa de Oro Rotary Club Counseling and monitoring measure the Attention to continuous training; Updating the library catalog; Results of an inventory of the collection, considering that in the best library of the world books are lost; Use of the library materials and group visits at the library Teachers and parents participation at the libraries activities

Boca del Río Costa de Oro Rotary Club • Sustainability of the project measure the • Linked to a National Reading Program - SEP • Parents enrolment • Signed letter from School and Parents Association • Project linked to a University Social Extension Program • Absysedu used through an agreement (Baratz-UV) • Each library will have a counselor/monitor • Threecommitteeswilljoinefforts: University, Rotary Club and School, etc.

  18. Boca del Río Costa de Oro Rotary Club • Goals: • As a first stage of the project, we are considering: • 20 schools, • Providing at this stage: book shelves, a desktop computer, a barcode reader, a books package and continuous training. • The total project cost is USD$ 36.000. • The total benefited population is 6,100 people; including children, parents and teachers.
