Please check it carefully!

Helping Hands/Leaders • Attendance • Line Leader • Snack Helper • Show and tell • My Helper Snacks • Individualized in packages (or baggies) • Nutritious Snacks • Bring cupcakes only on birthdays • 30 students Birthdays • Birthdays are very important to children. We will celebrate each birthday near the closest day. • Summer birthdays will be on their half birthday. • Please do not send birthday invitations to school to be passed out unless they are for all of the girls/boys or everyone.

Attendance • Call our secretary, Mrs. Trumbley, or email me if you know your child will be absent • Check in at the office if you are tardy • Send a note/email if there is a change in transportation or if you know your child will be absent DISMISSAL is at 3:49pm • Please do not come to the classroom to pick-up your child. Your child will be dismissed by me and will meet you by the playground. • I will wait with your child for about 5-10 minutes after school is over. If you are not there, I will then take them to the office to wait for you.

  6. ASSESSMENTS Your child will be assessed at the beginning of the year and at the end of each Trimester. The assessments will be primarily in the areas of Language Arts and Math. Our report card and all assessments are completely aligned to the Common Core State Standards for Kindergarten.   7. Class Discipline • Verbal Warning • Sent to seat or moved from table • Missed recess or choice time • Parent notified/note sent home • Principal involved/Parents contacted • Discipline rubric for each child

  8. 6 DAY SCHEDULE(Please check calendars carefully) • Our school has adopted a 6-day cycle for instructional scheduling. Rather than a Monday to Friday schedule, we will operate on an A through F day schedule. This allows for a more equalized scheduling of the special subjects (music, library, gym). • The letter day schedule will rotate through the school calendar, taking into account inservice days and holidays. • Please contact me if you have any questions about the specific daily schedule A DAY – ART B DAY – MUSIC (Your child MUST C DAY- ART AND GYM wear gym shoes on D DAY –MUSIC gym day) E DAY- MUSIC F Day- GYM

  9. RECESS Your child will have recess 3 times everyday with other classes, weather permitting. Please dress your child appropriately for the weather. The temperature can vary greatly from morning to afternoon. CURRICULUM LANGUAGE ARTS • Benchmark Literacy • 56 Sight Words- these are posted on my website • Daily 5 • Guided Reading Groups WRITING • Zaner- Bloser • Journal writing/Creative writing • Invented Spelling • MAISA writing units

SCIENCE/HEALTH Battle Creek Math and Science • Senses • My Earth • Kindergarten in Motion • Alive: What Living Things Are SOCIAL STUDIES • Bear Necessities (Responsible, Respectful, Safe) • Weekly Reader News & Discussions • Story books and Discussion • Emphasis on community, citizenship, rules, etc.. • Social Worker visits every cycle MATH • Count to 100 & Recognizing numbers to 100 • Write Numbers to 50 • Counts by 10’s and 5’s to 100 and Money • Time to the hour • Add to 5 • Sorting, Graphing, and Patterning • Hands-on centers using a variety of manipulatives • Estimation Jar

  11. Homework • Read to your child everyday • Pizza Hut Book-It begins in October and ends in March • Homework calendars are sent home at the beginning of each month and due at the end of each month. You need to complete at least 3 activities a week. • IXL website. More information coming later.

Assessments Individual Kindergarten Assessment- 4x a year Assesses students on letters, sounds, sight words,numbers, patterns, rhyming, counting, etc. NWEA Running Records Report Cards every trimester will reflect the results of the assessments. We will have conferences to review and discuss your child’s progress. Ongoing Observations

THINGS TO WORK ON AT HOME Shoe Tying Dressing Self Snowsuit/Boots Writing Name, Phone Number, & Address Birthday (Month & Date) Your extra help at home really makes a difference DON’T FORGET You may send a WATER bottle to school with your child every day Label everything Lost & Found is by the playground doors Check your child’s yellow folder everyday Call or email if you have any questions or concerns VOLUNTEERS NEEDED If you would like to volunteer in our room please fill out and return the volunteer form

  14. Ways you can help • Help in classroom with centers etc. • Help prepare projects at home and school • Makes copies, separate papers ,cut out things, etc. • Be a guest reader • Help with class parties • Send in donations • PTO volunteers • Please return your volunteer form as soon as possible!
