So get ready as we explore some of the popular V8 diesel engine conversions. 1. LS SERIES PETROL V8 GM LS engine conversions are the most popular power up choice for almost every automotive application. Some of the standard features with these engines are their unique structural design of alloy blocks, great power, and limitless adaptability. They have also been used in the pint-sized Mazda MX5s due to their qualities in vast availability, relatively low purchase price, and small overall dimensions. Power details: 257-476 kW and 470-829 Nm Pay estimates: $500 for long LS1 Gen 3 motor only, $2,500 for a whole wrecked vehicle and $20K+ for a worked LS-X custom block (Warren Johnson) Common applications: Corvettes, HSVs, Statesmans, Adventures, and Commodores. 2. FORD COYOTE V8 PETROL The 5.0L OHC Ford Coyote (alloy block) is one of the least common V8 swaps nowadays. However, they are good engines that are able to make regular trips of over 7,000rpm and can also be bumped up into the HP range (four-figure) with some tweaks. They're worth considering if you'd want a matching power from a smaller displacement. Power details: 268-404 kW and 515-570 Nm Pay estimates: Approximately $11,500 for crate motor and $30,000 for 435 HP crate motor Common applications: FPV GT-F, XR8, Falcon GT, 11-present F150s, and 11-present Ford Mustangs. 3. DURAMAX V8 TURBO DIESEL This engine is known for mountains of torque, heaps of power, and economy on par. Power details: 190-270 kW and 624-881 Nm, at around 1,600rpm Pay estimates: For a second-hand engine, you should expect to pay $5,000, that is minus the import costs. For a drive-in-drive-out like v8 diesel engine conversion, you should expect to pay at least $50K. Common applications: Mainly GM Sierras, Chevy Silverado, and Hummer H1 Alphas.
