  3. 1.) Closed Shop • Employer agrees to hire only union members

  4. 2.) Fact-finding • An agreement between the union and management to have a neutral 3rd party collect facts about a dispute & present nonbinding recommendations

  5. 3.) Giveback • Is a wage, fringe benefit, or work rule given up when a contract is renegotiated

  6. 4.) Grievance procedure • A provision for resolving issues that may come up later-may be included in the final contract

  7. 5.) Arbitration • A process by which both sides agree to place their differences before a 3rd party whose decision will be accepted as final

  8. 6.) Mediation • The process of brining in a neutral 3rd person or persons to help settle a dispute

  9. 7.) Strike • Refusal to work until certain demands are met

  10. 8.) Lockout • Refusal to let works work until managements demands are met

  11. 9.) Modified Union Shop • Workers do not have to belong to a union to be hired and can not be made to join one to keep their jobs. If they join the union, they must remain a member for as long as they are employed

  12. 10.) Right-to-work-law • State law making it illegal to force workers to join a labor union
