SC8/TG1 • Coverage – API SPEC 4F & RP 4G • Chair – Shawn Firenza • Document Status • Spec 4F 4th ed. published January, 2013, effective August 1, 2013 • RP 4G published April, 2012 • Ongoing Activity • SES reported on the current design methodology comparison. We are working to define the next stage of the study to design. • Upcoming Letter ballot items • Modifications to account for rig moves. • Modification to the definition of substructure to clarify the inclusion of pony substructures. • Revisions to RP 4G to include platform rig structures in CAT IV inspections and to recommend evaluation of rig structures when a rig is moved to a new location.

  3. SC8/TG2 • Coverage – API SPEC 7K and RP 7L • Chair – Shawn Firenza/Faisal Yousef • Document Status • Spec 7K 5th ed. published June, 2012. Spec 7K 6th ed. Draft in progress. • RP 7L, reaffirmed August, 2012 • Ongoing Issues • Working to define specification for drawworks • Revisions to BOP handling specifications • Review of 6th edition draft for publication • Upcoming Letter Ballots • Purchaser Guideline • Revisions to hose specifications to allow for rotary hose used in underbalanced and gas drilling applications, increases in rated pressures, and fire ratings. • Removal of Power Tongs from the scope of covered equipment.

  4. SC8/TG3 • Coverage – API SPEC 8C, & RP 8B • Chair – Ken Kondo • Document Status • Spec 8C 5th ed. published April, 2012, errata issued May, 2014 • RP 8B 8th ed. Published May, 2014 • Ongoing Issues • Nominal Equivalent Stress • Sheaves • Many ballot items were resolved last year • Hydraulic Cylinders in hoisting and pull down applications • Wear limits on elevator bores • Addition of top drives and casing running tools in RP 8B • Allowance for pressure drop due to temperature variance during hydrostatic testing • Upcoming Letter Ballots • Purchaser Guideline

  5. SC8/TG4 • Coverage – API SPEC 7F, 9A & RP 9B • Chair – Dennis Fetter • Document Status • Spec 7F 8th ed. published November, 2010. Errata published May, 2013 • Spec 9A 26th ed. published May, 2011. Errata published October, 2012 • RP 9B 13th ed., published October, 2011. Errata published April, 2012, and January, 2013 • Ongoing Issues – • Wire rope design factors for setting BOP’s • Upcoming Letter Ballots • RP 9B revision – this revision gives much more guidance on the inspection and removal criteria for wire rope.

  6. SC8/TG5 • Coverage – API 7HU1 • Chair – Cindy Taff and Jason Shell • Document Status • API 7HU1, 1st ed. Published May 2009 • Ongoing Issues • Developing a Technical Specification for Design and Manufacture of Hammer Unions. Stress Engineering is performing analysis of the proposed design. • Currently the TG is expected to reaffirm 7HU1.
