  3. Contract Verbs Contract verbs are verbs whose stems end in alpha, epsilon, or omicron. The final vowel is called the “contract vowel”

  4. Contract Vowels Contract verbs follow the standard rule for verbs, BUT when the final stem vowel comes into contact with a connecting vowel, the two vowels contract. When they join, they form a different vowel or a diphthong.

  5. Contract Verbs Contract verbs are categorized according to their final stem vowel. All alpha stems behave alike, as do all epsilon ending stems and all omicron ending stems.

  6. Rules of Contract Verbs • Lamerson’s Simple Rules • Epsilon is easy and beaten by everyone • Alpha is an aggressor and beats some of the other vowels (like the epsilon) • Omega is the “overcomer” and takes on any and all comers

  7. Rules of Contract Verbs 1. ou is formed from eo, oe, and oo
