  1. Network Design

  2. First Class • Welcome to Network Design Class • Course Code : STIJ 3053 / 3054 • Pre-Requisite : STIJ 3024

  3. Synopsis • This course emphasizes on the procedures and principles in analysing, designing and implementing a typical data communications network. This course also stresses on system-oriented network development. Students will be given the necessary exposure related to network performance as well as related contemporary issues.

  4. Objectives • understand the techniques involve in designing a network infrastructure. • acquire the knowledge and skill to implement a network infrastructure. • understand  the concept of network design. • Apply the knowledge to implement a network infrastructure.

  5. Learning Outcomes • Explain about  issues, techniques and related technologies in planning, analysing, designing and implementing a network. • Choose the appropriate technology to be implemented for an organization’s network infrastructure. • Plan and analyse a typical network. • Describe the concept and procedures involved in designing and configuring a network. • Design and Implement a typical network. • Analyse the network requirement for an organization and  propose solution using a network design plan.

  13. Assignment 2 ( by group) • Design a network for a customer with following business requirement: A company has four departments: Administration, IT and R&D, Accounting and Investment & Property. All departments are in one building. But recently due to expansion of R&D, they have another group in another small building. They want each department in one subnet. Suppose each department has 100 nodes. But you only need to use one node in each subnet in your configuration to represent all nodes in that subnet. The company only has one public IP allocated: 58.26.58.129 to connect to Internet operated by TM NET. Assume no requirement on bandwidth.

  14. Assignment 2 ……….Cont Expected Output: • A document describing technical goals according to the customer business goals, what IP addresses do plan to use, what are those subnets for these for departments, what topology your network will be. • A demo of your design.
