  4. Helpful ideas following A Few simple steps can save you a big headache.

  5. make sure you have a Spare Tire The spare tire is usually found in the trunk on most cars. on trucks and suv’s it is hung from underneath

  6. Check to make sure you have a jack The jack is usually found with the spare on cars, check owners manual for exact location for your vehicle

  7. Check to make sure you have a tire tool (lug wrench) The lug wrench is usually found with the spare on cars, check owners manual for exact location for your vehicle

  8. Make sure the air pressure is correct on your spare Review the owners manual for the correct air pressure for the spare. The air pressure is also stamped on the side of the tire

  9. Make sure you have a owners manual It is a good idea to review the steps for changing a flat tire, you never know when that information could come in handy!

  10. In the event of a flat tire while driving Remain Calm Take your foot off the gas and coast No sudden braking or steering Pull off the road Turn on emergency flashers

  11. Put your car in park, first gear if a manual

  12. Apply the emergency brake. Some cars it is a lever, and some it is a pedal

  13. Locate your spare tire, jack and tire tools Make sure you look at the procedure in the owners manual

  14. In the manual locate the proper lift points to set the jack

  15. Remove the wheel cover or hub cap if equipped After breaking the lug nuts loose raise the car until the tire is off the ground

  16. Remove the loose lug nuts and then remove the flat tire Install the spare tire the same way the flat tire came off. Make sure the air valve is facing out towards you

  17. Install the lug nuts and screw on as far as possible by hand, lower car until tire touches the ground, and finish tightening with lug wrench

  18. Replace the hub cap. Lower the jack all the way to remove. Place the flat tire, jack and tools in the car.

  19. Following this simple procedure will keep you from being stranded
