  5. SUFISM • Individual path • Using all our power to get close to God • To reach the perfection • Journey in your ego (self), heart and soul • Islamic techings

  6. SACRED TEXT IN ISLAM • Two main sources • Koran • God’s word • Verses revealed to prophet Muhammad (PBUH) • Teachings of prophet Muhammad (PBUH) • Prophet Muhammad’s explanations of verses

  7. ISLAM = PEACE • Love • Peace • Tolerance

ISLAM • “Say, we believe in God and that which has been revealed to us, and that which was revealed to Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac and Jacob and the tribes and that which was given to Moses and Jesus and to other prophets, from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and to Him we submit.” (The Family of Ìmrán/Al-Ìmrán 83)

MEANING OF LIFE ACCORDING TO ISLAM • We stay in this life for a very short time • After this world we will have an eternal life • “Be certain of this, that the highest aim of creation and its most important result is belief in God. And the most exalted rank in humanity and its highest degree is the knowledge of God contained within belief in God. And the most radiant happiness and sweetest bounty for human beings is the love of God contained within the knowledge of God.”

  11. ULTIMATE GOAL OF LIFE • There is nothing more enjoyable for us than getting close to God • “To those who do right is a fine reward, neither dust nor shame shall cover their faces. Those are the companions of paradise, in it they shall live for forever” (Jonah/Yunus 26)

  12. TEACHINGS ON SUFISM • Self Annihilation in God and permanence or subsistence with God

  13. TEACHINGS ON SUFISM • Always being together with God or in His presence, so that no worldly aim is entertained

  14. TEACHINGS ON SUFISM • As resisting the temptations of the carnal self and bad qualities and acquiring moral qualities

  15. TEACHINGS ON SUFISM • Seeing behind the “outer” or surface appearance of things and events and interpreting whatever happens in the world in relation to God

  16. FIRST STEP • Every heart is like a compass shows God • Effect of material world • Cleaning hearts • They will show us the direction

  17. ALWAYS BEING WITH GOD • In every part of our life be with God • In every single moment of our life worship God • Example; Sufi masters • Tongue, heart and soul

  18. THREE FACES OF THE WORLD • Material world • Here after • Mirror showing God • Hold the world in our hands not the hearts

  19. سُبْحَانَكَ لاَ عِلْمَ لَنَا إِلاَّ مَا عَلَّمْتَنَا إِنَّكَ أَنتَ الْعَلِيمُ الْحَكِيمُ Glory to You, of knowledge We have none, save what You have taught us: In truth it is You Who are perfect in knowledge and wisdom. (The Cow/Al-Baqarah 32)
