  3. The STARTER project www.starter-project.eu Project title: Sustainable Transport for Areas with Tourism through Energy Reduction Funding: Intelligent Energy Europe (IEE) Duration: April 2012 – December 2014 (33 months) Aim: To promote energy efficient and sustainable mobility policies and practices in touristic areas through the cooperation of local parties in Local Travel Plan Networks (Noordwijk, Kos, Fuerteventura, Balaton, Werfenweng)

  5. LTPN concept A Local Travel Plan Network (LTPN) is: “A group, or network, of organisations that have come together to share resources and ideas for developing and implementing a travel plan in their local area.” Where a LocalTravel Plan (LTP) is: “A package of measures tailored to the needs of individual organisations and aimed at promoting greener, cleaner travel choices and reducing reliance on the car.” LTPs are widely adopted in urban areas as travel plans for: employees travelling to/from work, students and parents travelling to/from school and residents travelling to/from their residencies. Their main characteristic is that they are dynamic strategic documents, demanding constant updating based on local changes.

  13. innovative and transferable profile of the STARTER project • Applying LTPs in touristic areas suffering from the steep seasonality of transport demand – focusing on quick, cheap and effective mobility solutions rather than on traditional and costly infrastructural interventions • Bringing together – for discussion and decision making - two (often conflicting) sectors: tourist and transport • Publishing two handbooks: • Policy recommendations for the implementation of a LTPN in touristic areas (targeting primarily policy makers) • Handbook for the implementation of a LTPN in touristic areas (targeting all interested stakeholders)
