  3. Introduction to Astro & Cosmo Astronomy: • what is in the sky? • why does it look like that? • how and why does it change? Cosmologies: What is the origin, structure, and evolution of the Universe? • How can we explain what we observe? • What does it mean to me and my people? • How did/do other cultures understand the structure and meaning of the universe?

Photos and Workshop • Seminar students: • please get your photo taken by Jada • registration questions or forms for Zita? • Astronomy students: • whose surveys need names? • ET workshop: please fill out one report per team • put your name on your workshop • clip all your team’s work together and hand it in. • Break - class resumes promptly at _______

  7. Introductions and partners • Tell us your NAME and ONE thing you hope to learn this quarter (in 10 words or less) • Where do you live (generally: A-dorm? Tacoma?) • Join a team from Astronomy & Cosmologies (3 total) • Trade phone numbers, email, and addresses • Take responsibility for getting information to each other if you miss anything.

Assignments and WebX • Finish your reading at least 1 day before class • Meet your team the day before class • You willpost most of your assignments online (WebX) * PIQs = Points, Insights, and Questions (teams) * one-page essays • You will learn to use WebX on Wednesday • We will do seminars in a WebX chat room!

  9. Web Survey on inQsit • Go to http://grace.evergreen.edu/inqsit/ • Open the WebSurvey (finish it by Friday). You may stay here to finish the survey if you like. It will take about an hour. • Before you leave tonight: • Get your photo taken • Schedule a meeting with your team tomorrow • Then you are free to go – see you Wed. at 5:00!
