What works • Attention grabbing facts and figures • Strong visuals2d and 3d • Sticking to one issue at a time • Having fun with it - humour will give your campaign wider appeal! • Keep it simple
Last year’s project….. • Champions created display boards so that students in halls could see the CO2 impact of wasting electricity. • An energy bike was placed in a refectory; over 70 people rode the bike whilst the Champions chatted to students about the importance of switching off. • Champions created a cardboard student with balloons attached representing the 172 balloons worth of CO2 produced by each student in halls from electricity use on a daily basis
Last year’s project….. Students carried out door-knocking in their halls, conducting an audit of electricity use in flats and rewarding students who weren’t wasting energy with a fair-trade chocolate bar. Champions put up posters in their halls about the amount of energy wasted by leaving appliances on. Champions hung a large and very visible banner with the message “Switch Off” from the windows of Moberly Hall.
Last year’s project….. Champions obtained Switch Off stickers which were placed upon light switches by Hall Management. A representative Champion from each campus attended Hall Management Meetings to discuss what can be done in Halls with the JCR committee and representatives from STARS. Champions produced a video on recycling systems in halls to be shown to new students at the start of the next academic year.
