Nature of Work • Sell different types of insurance (health, life, auto, fire, accident) to clients (individuals, families, businesses) or advises clients on insurance. • Find more business and renew existing insurance policies. • Maintain records and prepare reports • Help policyholders settle claims

  4. Employment and Job Outlook • Large occupation • 436,000 workers in the U.S. in 2006 • 50% brokerages and insurance agencies, 23% insurance carriers, and 25% self-employed. • Stable and jobs are increasing at an average rate

  5. Training/Education • High school diploma • Bachelor’s degree in business or economics is preferred by employers • Need license to sell insurance in a specific state (also need additional licenses to sell life, health, property, casualty)

  6. Earnings • Average annual earnings between $45,000 and $60,000 on salary • Can earn additional money on commission (earning a part of what you sell) • Also receive benefits such as continuing education
