OUR EXPLORATION ASSIGNMENTCreating a Multilevel List and a Single-Page Unbound Report • OBJECTIVES: • In this project, you will: • check spelling and grammar • create a multilevel list • position text on a page • change text font, font size, and case • format a single-page unbound report Unit 1 Project 2

  3. Starting Out! • Start the Word application and open the Perry list document. Then save the document with a new name. • Start the Word application. • Open the Perry list document. • Save the document as Perry list2 followed by your initials. Unit 1 Project 2

TRAIL MARKER 1Checking Spelling and Grammar • Spell-check the entire Perry list2 document. • Tap the CTRL + HOME keys, if necessary, to position the insertion point at the top of the document. • Click the Review tab on the Ribbon and locate the Proofing group. Click the Spelling & Grammar button to open the Spelling & Grammar dialog box. • Click the Change button to change the misspelled words. • Click the OK button. Unit 1 Project 2

  7. TRAIL MARKER 2Creating a Multilevel List • Select all the text below the • title paragraph. • Move the insertion point immediately in front of Introduction. • Tap the CTRL + SHIFT + ENDkeys to select all the text from the insertion point to the end of the document. Unit 1 Project 2

TRAIL MARKER 2Creating a Multilevel List • Set the numbering formats for the three levels. • Click the Home tab on the Ribbon and locate the Paragraph group. • Click the Multilevel List button in the Paragraph group to view a gallery of numbering options. • Click Define New Multilevel List at the bottom of the gallery to open the Define New Multilevel List dialog box. Click the Number style for this level drop-down arrow and click I, II, III…. • Click 2 in the Level list. Click the Number stylefor this level drop-down arrow and click A, B, C…. Use the I-beam to select the following topics: • Whaling industry • Expedition size • Perry’s task • Japan’s response . . . • Perry’s determination • Release the CTRL key. Unit 1 Project 2

The selected topics are demoted once to Level 2 subtopics. Deselect the text. • Use the I-beam and the CTRL key to select the Signing the Treaty of Kanagawa and Treaty provisions topics. Release the CTRL key. • Click the Increase Indent button twice. The selected topics are demoted twice to Level 3 details. • Deselect the text and save the document. Unit 1 Project 2

  17. TRAIL MARKER 3Positioning Text on a Page • Set the margins. • Click Custom Margins to open the Page Setup dialog box. • Click the Margins tab, if necessary, and key 2 in the Top, Left, and Right text boxes. Leave the bottom margin at 1 inch. • Click the OK button. Unit 1 Project 2

This selects the title paragraph for formatting. • Click the Home tab on the Ribbon and locate the Paragraph group. • Click the Center button in the Paragraph group. • Deselect the text, if necessary, and save the document. TRAIL MARKER 4Changing Text Font, Font Size, and Case • Select the entire Perry list2 document and change the font and font size. • Tap the CTRL + A keys to select the entire document. • Click the Home tab on the Ribbon, if necessary, and locate the Font group. • Click the Font box drop-down arrow. Click Times New Roman. Scroll the font list, if necessary, to see the font name. • Click the Font Size box drop-down arrow and click 12. Deselect the text. Save the document. Unit 1 Project 2

Select all the Level 1 topics. Release the CTRL key. • Click the Change Case button in the Font group. Click UPPERCASE and deselect the text. Unit 1 Project 2

Spell-check the entire document. • Set 2-inch top and 1-inch left, right, and bottom custom margins. • Select the report’s main heading. Click the Home tab on the Ribbon and locate the Styles group. • Click the Styles gallery More button. Click the Title option in the gallery. • Deselect the title and save the document.
