  1. Past, Present and Future April 2013

  2. C-ID Overview • Past • Background • Purpose • Present • Review Process • Accomplishments/Improvements • Future • Legislative Leanings • New Opportunities

  3. C-ID • Course Identification Numbering System • Products • Course descriptors • Processes • Convening of intersegmental faculty for descriptor development • Statewide vetting of draft descriptors • Submission of course outlines for review • Course outline review process

  4. What does C-ID do? • Provides a numerical “tag”, a C-ID designation, for courses that match an intersegmentally developed descriptor • Provides a means of identifying comparable courses and of ensuring course portability within the CCCs • Addresses the need for “common course numbers” • Intrasegmental articulation • SOME intersegmental articulation

  5. What does C-ID NOT do? • “Justify” or validate prerequisites. • Offer descriptors that should be used in lieu of course outlines of record. • Establish repeatability. • Standardize curriculum.

  6. C-ID >> TMC • Offers a quality control and model for required courses in the TMCs (transfer model curricula) that are the basis of the statewide response to SB 1440 (associate degrees for transfer; AA-T/AS-T degrees) • All required courses in a TMC are specified by C-ID descriptors. • Course outline of record (COR) submission to C-ID now required PRIOR to degree submission.

  7. C-ID COR Review • Reviewed by 1 CCC and 1 CSU faculty member. • CCC Primary Reviewer reconciles differences. • Review Approach (details in AO Guide): • All descriptor requirements met via holistic review • Prerequisite/Corequisite – must be present; additional okay • Content & Objectives – no expectation of word for word match • Units – may be more but not less • Methods of Evaluation – samples unless otherwise indicated • Textbook within 7 years unless an exception

  8. C-ID Course Review Best Practices • Remember that well-aligned CORs contribute to a more expedient review process and that C-ID descriptors are intended to reflect a MINIMUM. • Assist faculty in understanding course review requirements when developing/updating CORs (Resources: AO Guide, AO Training PowerPoint). • Submit courses ASAP. • Submit courses wherever they are appropriate – psychology or sociology stats for math stats descriptor, etc.

  11. Improvements – C-ID Status and the CCCCO

  12. Additional Improvements • Administrator View • Excel spreadsheet of all approved descriptors (http://c-id.net/view_final.html) • Access to Excel spreadsheet link to list all courses for that college in C-ID as well as the status (accessed from AO “View Submitted Courses” link) • Increased frequency of review determination notification • Downloadable list of all CCC Courses in C-ID on public site (http://c-id.net/course_compare.html) • Access to CSU courses deemed comparable to C-ID descriptors (http://c-id.net/course_compare.html)

  13. Concerns • Consistent review standards • Webinar trainings, norming document and discipline specific instruction • Disagreement with review determination • Appeal process under review by the ICW • Delay in approved courses • Recent increase in CSU reviewer appointments • Email notifications regarding review determination • Beginning daily this week • Need for C-ID articulation contact person • C-ID AO Subgroup

  14. Coming Soon to AO Submission Page – TMC Link Select TMC Discipline Courses in C-ID system will automatically populate with status

  15. SB 440 • Proposes to codify the TMC approach and the BOG’s degree-development goals. • Mandates that CSU accept all options within a major as “similar”.
