  1. IAQ and Infectious Diseases ASHRAE Research: Keeping You Healthy

  2. Risk Factors Vector Borne Diseases are transmitted from person to person through the air Hot and Humid Climates are more susceptible to these diseases Land use change and climate change can create factors that increase the emergence of infectious diseases Urbanization and environmental sanitation raise the risks of diseases spreading quickly

  3. ASHRAE’s Role • ASHRAE’s standards for the built environment must include Indoor Air Quality for any building dealing with water, air, or solid waste • Supporting the creation of adequate building infrastructure tools • Develop partnerships with other organizations and government agencies to enhance building practices and educate those involved • Understand the influences of HVAC&R on pathogen transmission in public spaces and develop control strategies

  4. Current Research Projects 30% Advanced Energy Design Guide for Small Hospitals and Healthcare Facilities SP96 (1262-RP) – Commercial Aircraft Cabin Air Quality Study SP98 – Ventilation and Indoor Air Quality in Retail Spaces 1397-RP – Experimental Investigation of Hospital Operating Room (OR) Air Distribution

  5. Current Research ProjectsContinued • 1450-RP – Transport of Contaminants from Garage Attached or Integral to • 1603-RP – Role of HVAC Systems in the Transmission of Infectious Agents in Buildings and Intermodal Transportation • Grant-in-Aid – The protective effect of buildings characterizing indoor air quality, infiltration and ventilation

  6. How You Can Help! These initiatives, projects, and goals would not be possible without individuals and companies who have chosen to support ASHRAE’s commitments with financial contributions. We need your support as well! Please visit www.ashrae.org/contribute to donate to ASHRAE Research today.
