    1. ALTERNATIVE TIMETABLING

    2. You can reach every student with the timetable….. Remember to review student progress often Keep in mind that timetabling requires individualization to meet student needs Consider timetables that can be flexible to meet the needs of your most difficult to serve student

    3. Provide alternatives for a fresh start Provide a learning centre for continuous intake Offer credit recovery, credit rescue and credit completion to support students in their completion of expectation Provide opportunities for independent studies and on line course delivery

    4. Provide opportunities for a fresh start during a semester Continuous intake co-op as an alternative to remain in a failing course Schedule selective courses in the same period to accommodate transfer from one course to another (MPM1D & MFM1P) Deliver more courses in a half credit format

    5. Look for ways to layer on top of a regular timetable School with-in a school find blocks of time with-in the day build outside the timetable like co-op run programs outside the day or year

    6. During the school day Develop a learning centre requires a larger room with computer access focus on students who need to catch up on credits use your student success teacher to co-ordinate instructional delivery

    7. Your learning centre needs to be flexible Some students working on full courses through on-line or ILC materials others completing courses through credit recovery or credit completion Find ways to support students falling behind in daily work ie point zero days ask teachers for work folders for students not handing work…students work in centre for a day

    8. Package courses Provide 2,3 or 4 credit packages for a group of students with common needs have a double period block to accommodate double crdits operate 3-4 credit packages like co-op where the classes run on their own schedule

    9. Sample Progams ACES (Alternative Character Education students) ENG, HIR, PAD and IDC credits focus on outdoor education at field centre(20 days) Manufacturing TDJ, TCJ,BDP and ENG hands on course to design, build, promote and sell field work to Habitat and other sites (20days)

    10. Sample 4 credit packages CHILDCARE HSP,HPW,ENG,IDC practical experience through weekly placements in elementary classrooms and pre-school faclities FREEDOM WRITERS EPS,ADA, ENG, HSP using the Freedom Writers journal as the core, students explore personal and social issues through journal,reading and acting.

    11. Outside the school days Look to programs which focus on literacy and numeracy programs such as Counting on You provide opportunities to work with students outside the day Be creative and find ways to have students complete credits while participating in the program

    12. Alternatives to summer school Find out about running a summer program at you site through “Camp I Can” focus on numeracy and literacy Provide opportunities for students in LDCC and applied courses to complete credits while at the camp design a summer co-op program to parallel the summer camp
