How does the EU protect and promote the cultural, historical and natural heritage in Macedonia Macedonia is not a member of the EU yet, but the European Union protects the country's cultural heritage. These cultural values are promoted and protected through various funds and grants. Here is an overview of some of the most important manifestations and locations that represent the Macedonian cultural, historical and natural heritage.

  4. KrusevoFirst Republic in the Balkans . The monument Ilinden (Makedonium) was built in 1974 in honor of the First Republic of the Balkans, created in Krusevo in 1903. The republic lasted only 10 days. Interior of the monument Ilinden (Makedonium)

Memorial House of Todor Proeski Museum - dedicated to one of the most famous music stars in the Balkans, Todor (Toshe) Proeski, who died when he was 26 years old in a car accident that occurred in 2007. This is one of the most visited museum in Macedonia, by August of 2018, it has visited more than 600 000 people, from many countries in the world, and especially the Balkans.

  7. Galicnik Wedding The New York Times and National Geographic proclaimed the Galicnik Wedding for the most traditional wedding festival in Europe. Before the bridegroom enters, the bride from the window or from the door looks through the wedding ring three times, saying: "I see you through the ring, to enter in your heart!"

  12. Samuil's Fortress - a medieval fortress in the city of Ohrid, originally built by King Philip II of Macedonia, and later named after the medieval emperor Samuel. Visit to Samuil's fortress by students from Bulgaria and Macedonia within the project "Learn and Play with ICT".

  16. Macedonia is the motherland of Mother Teresa Mother Teresa was born in the capital of Macedonia city Skopje on August 26, 1910. In her honor in Skopje was built the only museum in the world dedicated to Mother Teresa.

  19. Macedonia has 3 natural lakes: Ohrid, Prespa and Dojran Lake Ohrid belongs to the group of very old, tectonic lakes and is the oldest lake in Europe. According to several studies, its age is between 3 and 5 million years old.

  21. Macedonia is a predominantly mountainous country.There are 34 mountain peaks with over 2,000 m altitude which are rich with vegetation. The highest peak is Golem Korab at a height of 2753 meters.
