CERISE • Objective: Network for exchanging and disseminating good practices in microfinance • Members : French organizations specialized in, setting up and supporting MFIs in the South • Partners: International network of partners in Africa, Latin America and Asia, mostly in rural areas • Topics: Governance, impact and social performance, rural finance and fair trade, etc.

SPI – Social Performance IndicatorsA questionnaire to measure SP • Principles: simplicity, internal info, standardization, external check, designed with and forMFIs (Finsol since 2001) • Contents: a questionnaire and a companion guide(available on www.cerise-microfinance.org) • 4 key dimensions : • Outreach • Adaptation of products, • Social capital, • Social responsibility

ProsperA: PROmotion of Social PERformance An Alliance of Practitioners • Roots: Build on the experience of the practitioners with SPI since 2001 • Objective: Develop the culture and practices of SP via the capacity-building of MFIs & networks. • Activities: Exchanges and joint action on the basis of the SPI tool, governance & impact assessment • Members: 35 members (1/3 networks, 1/3 MFI, 1/3 support organisations)

ProsperA framework : the links between assessment and changes • SPI : assessment of the means to achieve social mission completion > internal assessment tool • Social Rating : external assessment and international comparison through MFIs benchmarks • Impact assessment : image of the effects on clients and their environment How to implement actions to improve social impact ? > Acting on the governancestructure

The tools for ProsperA:SPI, Impact and Governance • SPI and Impact analysis Assessment along the 4 key dimensions : consistency between mission and results; tailored to the MFI social objectives; beyond “classical” impact assessment • SPI and Governance Analysis, for each of the 4 key dimensions : 1) which stakeholders decide, 2) how is decision made and implemented and 3) how problems and crisis are managed.
