Objectives • At the completion of this module you will: • Know the parameters associated with the TDM (DS1/E1) interfaces • Be able to configure the various types of connections from a TDM SIM port • Be able to check the various Performance Monitoring Statistics for the TDM and ATM portions of the connections • Understand how to verify that a connection is capable of passing data • Know how to check for errored traffic

Viewing A DS1/E1 TDM SIM Card Configuration • There are two types of TDM SIM cards • Unstructured – The TDM SIM ports can only be used in the Unstructured mode • Structured • The TDM SIM ports can be used in the Unstructured or Structured mode • Each TDM SIM port on the TDM SIM card is individually configurable with regards to Unstructured or Structured mode • In the Unstructured mode, only a full DS1 or E1 can be mapped to each TDM SIM port • In the Structured mode, multiple NxDS0 connections can be made to each DS1/E1 port • There are no modifiable card parameters on the TDM SIM card

  6. 1 2 3 Viewing a TDM SIM Card Configuration 1 – In the Network View, click on the name of the ONT/INT that contains the card you want to view. This will bring up the NE Info/Summary page for the ONT/INT 2 – Click on the Shelf link. This will bring up the chassis graphic of the ONT/INT 3 – Click on the card link in either the Provisioned area or the Equipped area. This will bring up the summary screen for the card

Configuring An Unstructured E1 TDM SIM Port • There are two sets of parameters that can be configured on an E1 TDM SIM port • E1 Interface Parameters • Line coding • Line length • Loopback setting • Circuit Emulation Service Parameters • Port Parameters can be configured prior to provisioning a connection

  11. 1 4 2 3 Configuring An Unstructured E1 TDM SIM PortE1 Interface Parameters 1 – In the Network View, click on the ONT/INT that contains the TDM SIM card with the port you wish to configure. This will bring up the NE Info/ Summary screen for that ONT/INT 2 – Click on the Shelf link to bring up the front panel view of the ONT/INT chassis 3 – Click on the TDM SIM port that you wish to configure. This will bring up the summary information screen for that port 4 – Click on the Configure link in the upper right corner of the E1 Interface Parameters [X:X] section. This will bring up the Edit Port Configuration/Configurable E1 Port Parameters screen

  13. 4 Configuring An Unstructured E1 TDM SIM PortCircuit Emulation Service (CES) Parameters 4 – Click on the Configure link in the upper right corner of the CES Config [X:X] section. This will bring up the Edit Port Configuration/Configurable T1 CES Parameters screen

  16. 2 1 3 4 Configuring An STDM SIM E1 Port For Channelized SupportE1 Channelization & Interface Parameters 1 – In the Network View, click on the ONT/INT that contains the TDM SIM card with the port you wish to configure. This will bring up the NE Info/ Summary screen for that ONT/INT 2 – Click on the Shelf link to bring up the front panel view of the ONT/INT chassis 3 – Click on the TDM SIM port that you wish to configure. This will bring up the summary information screen for that port 4 – Click on the Configure link in the upper right corner of the E1 Interface Parameters [X:X] section. This will bring up the Edit Port Configuration/Configurable E1 Port Parameters screen

  17. 5 6 Configuring An STDM SIM E1 Port For Channelized SupportE1 Channelization & Interface Parameters NOTE: When a V.35 port is mapped to a structured E1, it operates with PCM31CRC framing only. Therefore, the structured E1 port must have the Channelization parameter configured for PCM31CRC. In this mode, timeslots 1 thru 31 can be used 5 – Locate the Channelization parameter and click on its drop-down menu arrow. From the menu list, choose the option that matches the setting on the attached device. The Line Coding parameter has only one option: HDB3 6 – Click on the Submit button to make the changes effective

Configuring An STDM SIM E1 Port For Channelized SupportE1 Channelization & Interface Parameters • Configurable E1 Port Parameters • Channelization – Specifies the channelization format to be implemented for the E1 signal • Disabled (default) • PCM30 • PCM30CRC • PCM31 • PCM31CRC • Line Coding – Specifies the coding format for the physical E1 port. • HDB3 (default) • Loopback Configuration – Specifies the type of loopback to be implemented on the physical E1 port • NoLoop (default) • EQPTLoop • FacilityLoop

This will bring up the summary information screen for that port 4 – Click on the Configure link in the upper right corner of the FXS Port Parameters [X:X] section. This will bring up the Edit Port Configuration/Configurable FXS Port Parameters screen

Configuring A V.35 SIM PortV.35 Interface Parameters • Mode – Specifies what mode the port will operate in • Options – 56K, 64K • Default – 64K • Tx Clock • Options – Local SCT, SCTE • Default – Local SCT • SCT=Serial Clock Transmit. The V.35 SIM port will TRANSMIT clock to the attached DTE device for the DTE device’s transmit data • SCTE=Serial Clock Transmit External. The V.35 SIM port will RECEIVE clock from the attached DTE device along with the DTE device’s transmit data • Tx Clock Invert • Options – yes, no • Default – no • DTE TM Signal • Options – high, low • Default – high • TM = Test Mode. The V.35 port will TRANSMIT this signal to the attached DTE device to tell the DTE device that it is in the Test mode.

The V.35 port will TRANSMIT a signal to the attached DTE device that is is receiving a signal from the far end • DTE CTS Signal • Options – high, low • Default – high • CTS = Clear To Send. The V.35 port will TRANSMIT a signal to the attached DTE device indicating that the V.35 port is ready for operation • DTE DSR Signal • Options – high, low • Default – high • DSR = Data Set Ready. The V.35 port will TRANSMIT a signal to the attached DTE device indicating that it is ready to send data to the DTE device. A correct DTR signal (high) is the required response for proper operation
