  2. 2 The journal is discuss about the study by using conversation analysis in a family members delivering and responding to directive actions during family mealtime conversations.   7. 7 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 Incipient compliance Schegloff (1989) suggests that the preferred response following a directive is either a compliant action, or some behavioural indication that such an action or course of action is being launched. He describes actions that indicate future compliance as incipient compliance. He distinguishes incipient compliance from full compliance on the grounds that the recipient “does not actually go on to comply at this point” despite performing preparatory actions. Incipient compliance takes the form of actions that can be completed as a precursor to compliance or as part of getting ready to comply.

  9. 9 CONCLUSION Compliance, resistance and incipient compliance is kinds of responding that usually happen in an conversation when the recipients get some directives from the speakers.
