  2. What causes stress? • It is your body and minds response to any type of demand • Different types stress triggers • Environmental stressors • Biological stressors • Thinking stressors • Behavioral stressors • Life change stressors

  3. Continued Environmental- conditions or events that cause you stress Biological- conditions in your physical body that make it difficult for you Thinking- a mental challenge can cause stress Behavioral- behaviors such as not getting enough sleep Life change- major life change either positive or negative

  4. Physical response to stress • Fight or Flight • The reason for this is the adrenaline that starts to course though your body • This helps you response to the stressor

Emotional and Behavioral Response to Stress • Positive Stress • Eustress- is healthy normal stress, and it can energize you to help you reach your goals. • Positive Consequences • Negative Stress • Distress- is negative stress that can make a person sick or keep a person from reaching a goal. • Negative Consequences • Try to make stress positive

Long-Term Stress Can Make You Sick • The General-Adaptation Syndrome • Alarm Stage- In the alarm stage the body and mind become more alert. • Resistance Stage- The body becomes more resistant to disease and injury for a short amount of time. • Exhaustion Stage- The body can no longer handle the amount of stress, and it becomes exhausted.

  14. RESILIENCY “Bouncing back from difficult experiences.” • how easily you can adapt to a traumatic event or change in your life • recovering from something life-changing that altered your daily life and thoughts • resilience is what helps go back to a normal and balanced life

  15. Stress is all about perception • Negative thoughts can overwhelm and discourage us • Have a positive outlook to avoid the unnecessary stress

  16. POSITIVE SELF-TALK • “the talking you do in your own head about yourself and the things that happen” • “Self-talk is very powerful. It sends the same chemical messages to your brain as actual experiences do.”

  17. MANAGE YOUR TIME • Organize: calendars, agendas, to-do lists • Plan Ahead: schedules, break big tasks into smaller ones • Prioritize: set goals and complete them according to their importance and your ability to complete them
