  2. OBJECTIVES • On an End-of-Lesson Test, and in accordance with FAA Orders 7110.65 and 7610.4, Special Military Operations, you will identify flights requiring special handling, including terms and definitions associated with these flights. ATB15-2

  3. MILITARY ASSUMES RESPONSIBILITY FOR SEPARATION OF AIRCRAFT (MARSA) • MARSAis a condition whereby the military services involved assume responsibility for separation between participating military aircraft in the ATC system. ATB15-3

  4. TYPES OF AIRSPACE USED BY THE MILITARY ATB15-4

  5. AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL ASSIGNED AIRSPACE (ATCAA) • Air Traffic Control Assigned Airspace (ATCAA) is airspace of defined vertical/ lateral limits, assigned by ATC, for the purpose of providing air traffic segregation between the specified activities being conducted within the assigned airspace and other IFR air traffic. ATB15-5

  6. MILITARY OPERATIONS AREA (MOA) • A Military Operations Area (MOA) is an airspace assignment of defined vertical and lateral dimensions established outside Class A airspace to separate/segregate certain military activities from IFR traffic and to identify for VFR traffic where these activities are conducted. ATB15-6

  7. ALTITUDE RESERVATIONS (ALTRVs) An ALTITUDE RESERVATION is airspace utilized under prescribed conditions normally employed for the mass movement of aircraft or other special user requirements which cannot otherwise be accomplished. “I would like to reserve flight levels 330 through 370.” ALTITUDE RESERVATIONS ATB15-7

  8. IR ROUTES ATB15-8

  9. AIR DEFENSE AIRCRAFT ATB15-9

  10. AIR REFUELING ATB15-10

  11. &Air Refueling Initial Point (ARIP) is a geographical point located upstream from the ARCP at which the receiver aircraft initiates a rendezvous with the tanker. &Air Refueling Control Point (ARCP) is a geographical point over which the receiver arrives in the observation/refueling position with respect to the assigned tanker. AIR REFUELING TRACK ARIP AR110 ARCP ATB15-11A

  12. & Air Refueling Exit Point (AREX) is the geographical point at which the refueling track terminates. AIR REFUELING TRACK AR110 ARCP AREX ATB15-11B

  13. FLYNET AND SAMPLER AIRCRAFT ATB15-12

  14. FORMATION FLIGHT A formation flight is more than one aircraft which, by prior arrangement between pilots, operates as a single aircraft with regard to navigation and position reporting. Separation between aircraft within the formation is the responsibility of the flight leader and the pilots in the other aircraft during joinup and breakaway. ATB15-13

  15. CELL FORMATION A cell formation is a nonstandard formation of two or more aircraft with the same intended route of flight, maintaining station-keeping operations by visual/electronic means. 60° 1 MILE 1 MILE ATB15-14

  16. FORMATION DEPARTURE & A formation departure consists of more than one aircraft at intervals of 1 minute or less. Each group of two aircraft is considered a formation departure. ATB15-15

  17. JAMMING Jamming is electronic or mechanical interference which may disrupt the display of aircraft on radar or the transmission/ reception of radio communications/navigation. ? ? ? ATB15-3
