A Brief History • Humble Beginnings: In 1890, the University was founded as Woolwich Polytechnic, the second ever in the UK. • In 1892, the school was awarded it’s first CGLI certificate. • 1894; Began teaching part-time courses in association with the Ministry of War. • Fast forward to 1907, it was an Institute with recognised teachers in the University of London. • 1935, Began teaching Sandwich making courses • In 1969, the college was amalgamated with a section of Hammerstein College of Art and Building • 1992, Became known as University of Greenwich • Until 1999, the college incorporated various other colleges until the well-known Maritime Greenwich Campus was established
The University in the Present Day • The University now currently enrols 23,000 students in various different courses • Students travel from 140 countries to study in one of the three magnificent campuses (which I will refer to later in the presentation) • Greenwich is situated very close to London and Kent, so It is a popular choice for both of these cities youth

General Information On The Campuses The University of Greenwich at Midway Avery Hill This campus is based at a Chatham Maritime. The buildings were build in Edwardian time 3,000 Students are based in this part of the College Situated in South East London Various different buildings on Campus built in the 19th and 20th Century Various spots to relax in, including, the Grade I, Winter Gardens, and there’s 86 acres of Parkland 6,000 Students are based here
Continued Maritime Greenwich • The college is based on the principal building of the Old Royal Navy College, which has been named a World Heritage Site. • It is situated on the banks of the River Thames • The building were built in the Baroque-era, by designer, Sir. Christopher Wren • It has the largest student population of all Three campuses, as 9,000 students are based here
Facilities In all three of the Campuses there’s many facilities that cater for students Including, • State of the Art Laboratories • TV Studios • Libraries • Book Shops • Gym & Sports Hall • Student Bars And other general services
Campus Life • In the three campuses of the University there is plenty to do in your free time • In Avery Hill, you can spent some time shopping on the high street, or Bluewater, the largest leisure centre in Europe and Central London is only 25 minutes by train • In Medway, Chatham and Gillingham, there’s many shops, restaurants and bars, all within walking distance. Bluewater is also accessible • Maritime, there’s a thriving town with Pubs, There’s markets at the weekends and Central London is only 20 Minutes away!
