Overview of the Plan • Students review and explain what they already know about state seal, symbols, and monuments • Students study state symbols and monuments • Students work in cooperative groups to design and propose a new symbol or monument
Curriculum Framing Questions Essential Question • Who are we? Unit Questions • How do we identify and define ourselves? • Who do we think we are? Content Questions • What are some National symbols? • What are the state symbols of Arizona? • What is a monument? • What is a symbol?
Request for Review • Please view example of KWL chart • Make suggestions as to possible changes • Look for reciprocal response of your presentation
Use of a KWL chart • The teacher will use a KWL chart to assess what students already know about Arizona symbols and monuments. • Students will be asked to write on a post-it notes what they already know and place it on the class KWL chart • The teacher can than conduct a class discussion using what the students know, explaining the project, and completing the what we want to know section of the KWL
