  2. What is SEO? SEO – Search Engine Optimisation SEO is the active process of optimising a website by improving internal and external aspects in order to increase the traffic a website receives from search engines. What SEO is NOT.. • Building a website that exploits a loophole in search engine algorithms to rank #1 for selected keywords ( that’s search engine spamming ). • SEO is not a gimmick designed to drive X thousand visitors in 24h.

  3. How search engine work? Before a search engine can tell you the answer for your query, it must be found first. To find information on the hundreds of millions of Web pages that exist, a search engine employs special software robots, called web spiders, to build a list of the words found on websites and relevancy between them. A web crawler (also known as a web spider or web robot) is a program or automated script that browses the internet seeking web pages to process.

  4. SEO - step by step process Step 1: Selecting best possible target keywords, rich traffic volume yet still niche to target Step 2: Optimizing website in terms of SEO for chosen keywords Step 3: Link Building campaign for chosen keywords Step 4: Measuring the results of the campaign Step 5: Taking further actions and developments to improve website in terms of SEO

  5. SEO Building Blocks

  6. SEO Technical Development Few examples of improving website architecture: • Optimising HTML Code Structure • Improving website navigation Properly worded and structured navigation is an integral part of good on-site optimisation. • Dynamic Title Tags & Meta Description Automatically generated Title Tags & Meta Description is one of the keys to success with large scale websites.

  7. SEO Technical Development Few more examples: • SEO friendly URL structure Good URL structure is crucial for SEO as in many cases the in-coming link from topic related websites will include valuable keywords within the URL itself and will automatically pass much more value. Not friendly URLs: www.yoursitename.com/index.php?cat=1&subcat=2 SEO friendly URLs: www.yoursitename.com/category1/sub-category2/ • Avoid using Flash, Frames & Java Script Search engines prefer plain html content. They recognise all graphics, Flash or JS. Avoiding html frames is also very advisable. • HTML / XML Sitemaps Automatically generated sitemaps are mainly used for improving number of indexed pages in search engines.

  8. On Page Optimisation

  9. 6 most important factors of on page optimisation • Content Optimisation • Page Title • Description META Tag • Headers & Text Decoration • Link Titles • Keep it fresh!

  10. Content Optimisation • The customer always comes first • A website should never sell themselves to search engines, they should sell themselves to people! • Then optimise for search engines • Insert keyword phrases only where they make sense to the reader! • There is no certain amount or ‘keyword density’ percentage that is best as this can vary based on a number of factors • Avoid using the same keywords too often

  11. Page Title • The page title is displayed at the top of your browser and is also used as the title of your website in the SERPs - Search Engine Results Pages • Keep it under 69 characters • Use valuable keywords • If possible call to action should also be considered in Title Tags

  12. Description Meta Tag The description META tag is used to display the snippet of text that appears in the SERPs underneath the page title. • Every page should have a unique META description - never use one description for an entire website • Like the page title, the description META tag is just as much to help with conversions as it is to help with rankings – think of it as short ad copy • Only the most important keywords should be used in the META description

  13. Headers and Text Decoration • Headers are used to structure content and keep it easy to read, but also for SEO reasons. The header tags that search engines tend to give more relevancy are: • <h1></h1> (the most relevant) • <h2></h2> (quite relevant) • <h3></h3> (less relevant) • Just like with headers, other text decorations can help search engines identify the most important keywords. The <b> or <strong> tag (there is no different between the two) is a perfect example of this. <H1></H1> <b></b> <h2></h2>

  14. Link Titles Link Titles are the additional URL attributes used to describe text links. They not only serve a purpose for SEO but also for accessibility. They are shown when you move the mouse over a link looking like this: <a href="/poker-glossary/phrases#r1" title="What is a Rake Race?">Rake Race</a> Link Title

  15. Keep it fresh! Search engines value new content New content = new linking opportunities Never use duplicate content – search engines are wise to this and duplicate content is generally disregarded for SEO purposes
