MA100/101 Overview • Consider MA100 and MA101 together one course • 1 Instructors / 2 sections / Less than 30 Cadets • RS101 (student success course) is embedded in MA100 AY11/Class of 2014 • Started with 29 “at risk” cadets and transferred in 6 cadets from MA103 after week 6 – Finished with 31 • 3 International / 4 Prior Service / 10 Corps Squad AY12/Class of 2015 • Started with 22 “at risk” cadets and transferred in 1 cadets from MA103 just after week 6 • 6 International/ 5 Prior Service/ 3 Corps Squad

  5. MA100/101 Overview • Course Content • Pre-Calculus Lesson Objectives tied to Required Knowledge for Entering Cadets • Remaining Lesson Objectives tied to MA103 Lesson Objectives and MA104 Block I Lesson Objectives Systems of Equations Texts: MA100: Precalculus, Stewart MA101: MRCW and Calculus, Stewart Technology: Mathematica Excel with review of Mathematica in Block II

  6. MA100 Vision • Primary Focus on Acquiring a Body of Knowledge • Heavy focus on fundamentalconcepts with special emphasis on functions • Very limited use of technology • Secondary Focus on Developing Habits of Mind • RS101 (Student Success Course) • Idea of daily preparation • Remaining Focus on Problem Solving, Technology and Communication • Overarching goal is to build confidence and help overcome any fear of math and problem solving

  7. Challenges • Incorporating Technology • No computers or calculators on any graded event until they pass the FCE • Timely Identification and Incorporation of Transfers Students • What to look for in a transfer candidate?? • Developing Habits of Mind • RS101 • WebAssign
