MACRO ECONOMIC TRENDS Macro economic trends have dictated that public funding is decreasing in supporting recreational, travel, and high school sports • Examples in our area: • Mount Vernon, NY • Scarsdale, NY • Larchmont, NY • Manhasset, NY These communities have turned to private funding to supplement their sports programs facilities

PELHAM COMMUNITY NEEDS • Pelham Future • - Moving in the direction of aforementioned communities due to taxpayer burden continuing to grow • Board of Education • - Severe financial pressures • Currently no private funding vehicle in Pelham • - There is a need to supplement funding for such large projects for our town’s sports facilities

PELHAM INFRASTRUCTURE ISSUES • Fields are in limited supply • - Almost all exist at schools only • Facilities are either • - Insufficient • - In poor condition • - Cannot be used in any inclement weather • Consequences on our sports programs • Limits practice & game times • Decreases the competitiveness of our programs • Creates scheduling difficulties for our families • No long-term plan to change things

  8. OUR SOLUTION Create a non-profit organization dedicated to raising money for sports facilities capital improvements • Who Will Benefit: • High School Athletics • Recreational Sports • Travel Sports Programs • Pelham Community

FRIENDS OF PELHAM SPORTS Introducing Friends of Pelham Sports Our Mission Statement: Friends of Pelham Sports (FPS) is dedicated to raising funds for both large and small capital improvements to benefit the recreation and sports communities of Pelham to help improve the quality of life for our youth and their families

SCARSDALE Fields for Kids – Scarsdale • History • School District declined to put turf field into bond issue • Established – 2003 • Objectives: • To study and promote improvements to public school and municipal athletic fields and facilities and provide financial, informational and other assistance to public school districts and municipal governments in improving their athletic fields and facilities.  • Success & Upcoming Projects: • Executed on Scarsdale HS Butler Field – Raised $800K privately - Field Opened Sept. 2005 (Phase 1) • Resurfacing of track completed summer 2006 (Phase 2) • Installed bleachers summer 2007 (Phase 3) • Installed donor brick walkway fall 2007 (Phase 4) • Assisted Village of Scarsdale in build of Crossway #4 & #5 Soccer Field - Opened Sept. 2006  • In process of identifying upcoming projects • This is the prototype organization in our area that many towns have used as their template

LARCHMONT • History: • Summer 2006 - Town votes down public funding of sports facilities • October 2006 – Fields For Kids announces its organization • Objectives: • Community-based organization whose mission is to advocate and raise money for the adequate number of safe and up-to-date playing fields for students participating in school-related and community-run sports programs in our area • Success & Upcoming Projects: • Executed on Flint Park $3.5MM Project – contributed $1MM • MHS Memorial Field Project – $1.35MM, they raised $465K towards Phase 1 which is new turf field on Memorial High School – turf field will be in by Sept. 2010 • Long-term plans to execute on 10 large projects (2 down, 8 to go) • http://www.fieldsforkidsmamk.org/Home.html

MANHASSET • History: • Established July 2007 – Indian Rock Community Foundation • Objectives: • Its mission is to promote opportunities through athletics for all residents of Manhasset by the development of a community partnership to provide athletic fields and state-of-the-art athletic facilities for all Manhasset students, PAL groups and the community at large • Success & Upcoming Projects: • Executed on Athletic Field House in 2009 • Raised $675K of private funds and took over the construction project • In process of identifying upcoming projects • http://www.irockfundhome.org/

GOALS & OBJECTIVES • Short Term • Finance construction of turf field at Glover to benefit Soccer, Lacrosse, Field Hockey, Ultimate Frisbee, Football, & more… • Long Term • - Identify additional needs in the Pelham Community for • future projects • Walking Trails • Tennis Courts • Basketball Courts & more… • Examples Include: • Development of other sports facilities • Improvement of current sports structures • Parks Improvements

Conclusion • Economic environment has caused many communities to create privately funded groups to supplement their athletic amenities • Pelham’s sports infrastructure is currently insufficient and in poor condition, therefore, they are unable to support our high school, recreational, and travel sports programs • “Friends of Pelham Sports” is the solution to enhance and develop the athletic facilities in our town and improve our quality of life
