  1. Alternatives to Gay Marriage By Madie Carlile Section VC

  2. Cons of Gay Marriage • Religious views of marriage • “The traditional family” • Societal consequences

  3. Religious Views of Marriage • Between one man and one woman • “Homosexual marriage is a sin” • Shared benefits between heterosexual couples • Immigration sponsorship • Social security • Survivor benefits • Priority of human remains of deceased spouse

  4. The Traditional Family • Belief that there will be an increase in fatherlessness and wedlock • Confusion of gender roles for children in homosexual households

  5. Social Consequences • Could lead to: • Changing certain laws • Fathers marrying daughters • People marrying their pets • Polygamy • Less marrying and loss of historic meaning and understanding (The Threat to Marriage)

  6. Pros of Gay Marriage • Allowing happiness for more people • Which creates less stress in peoples lives and longer life expectancy • Equal benefits shared between both homosexual and heterosexual couples • Studies showing positive effects on children

  7. Children in Homosexual Households • Studies done to show the outcome • Only negative aspect found to be that children are more open to thinking they are gay as well • Positive differences noticed • Less hostility • More openness to others being gay • Less anxiety • Lower number of psychiatric referrals

  8. Mediation • Allowing homosexuals to join in a civil union • It does not go against religious views (one man and one woman) • It will not keep children that have homosexual parents from being any different • Allows people to be happy • Shares more benefits than not marrying at all
