  2. Tigers live in • Continent of Asia • Thailand • Siberia • India • No longer found in Iran or Pakistan • Bred in captivity around the world • No longer captured from the wild for breeding programs

Tigers are • Adaptable to any climate • In Siberia, the tigers have adapted to cold, snowy conditions • In Thailand, tigers are found living in dense forests • All tigers prefer the shade; none live in open grasslands • Hunters of large prey • Tigers hunt deer, antelope, wild cattle, and wild pigs but will also catch small birds and monkeys.

  4. The body of a tiger • Male tigers • Weigh about 420 pounds • 9 feet long • Female tigresses • Weigh about 300 pounds • 8 feet long • Coloring of a tiger • Brownish-yellow or reddish with black stripes • White fur around the throat, belly and inside legs • White tigers live in Siberia

The Life of a Tiger • Adult tigers live alone • Adult males claim a territory and keep other males out. • Marks his territory with urine and scent on trees • Females have smaller territories and share the male tiger’s larger territory • Tigers are good swimmers • Tigers can climb trees but prefer not • A tiger’s roar can be heard for up to 2 miles
