  2. Why the Chamber of Commerce? The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world’s largest business federation representing the interests ofmore than 3 million businesses of all sizes, sectors, and regions, as well as state and local chambersand industry associations.

  13. What is Autism Spectrum Disorder? ASD is a developmental disability that typically appears in the first 3 years of life. Neurological Social Communication Independence

National Data There are an estimated 750,000 students with ASD in US public schools Often high school transition services fall short in providing the appropriate services to prepare for employment Individuals with ASD have limited opportunities for career development and work experience matched to their interests during their high school years.

  17. National Data • Within the next 15 years, more than 500,000 Americans with ASD will enter adult­hood, based on the rising incidence of the disorder • The lifetime per capita incremental societal cost of autism per individual is estimated to be $3.2 million.

Unfinished Business: Making Employment of People with Disabilities a National Priority United States Senate: Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions July 2012 – Senator Tom Harkin April 2011 – United States Chamber of Commerce and the United States Business Leadership Network agreed to actively participate to increase the size of the disability workforce from under 5 million to six million by 2015.
