Santiago Declaration • Set of 7 different criteria • Conservation of biological diversity • Maintenance of productive capacity of forest ecosystems • Maintenance of forest ecosystem health and vitality • Conservation and maintenance of soil and water resources • Maintenance of forest contribution to global carbon cycles • Maintenance and enhancement of long-term multiple socio-economic benefits to meet the needs of societies • Legal, institutional and economic framework for forest conservation and sustainable management • Within these 7 criteria are 67 indicators.

United Nations Forum on Forests • Mission: To reinforce political commitment to and implement sustainable forest management by member states, intergovernmental organizations and stakeholders. To provide a framework for national action and international cooperation • Was formed in 2000 and is composed of all UN member states, involved in a partnership with the Collaborative Partnership on Forests. • Countries involved are asked to make voluntary financial contributions to UNFF.
