    2. Essential Question What are the requirements to graduate from high school for incoming 9th grade students?

    3. Graduation Requirements for students entering 9th grade in 2011/2012. Pass all required coursework 23 Credits (units) minimum Pass the Georgia High School Writing Test Pass one EOCT (20% of course grade) in: English Math Social Studies Science

    4. Secondary Assessment Transition Plan Cohort 1: Students entering grade nine for the first time during the 2011-2012 school year and beyond Testing Rule Amendments for this cohort include: Removing the Georgia High School Graduation Tests as a requirement for graduation. Retaining the requirement to pass the Georgia High School Writing Test. Statewide Passing Score Rule amendments include: Increasing the contribution of EOCT to the course grade to 20%. NOTE: Students would not be required to pass the EOCT to graduate but must pass the course to earn credit.

    5. Secondary Assessment Transition Plan This transition plan was developed in consideration of the planned implementation of Common Core Assessments in 2014-2015. Beginning in 2011-2012 , Adequate Yearly Progress would be calculated using EOCT scores for selected courses. AYP would be calculated by course (such as American Literature).

    7. Secondary Assessment Transition Changes go into effect beginning with the 2011-2012 school year.

    8. Required Credits 4 units of English 4 units of Math 4 units of Science 3 units of Social Studies .5 Health/.5 Personal Fitness 3 units of electives from CTAE, Fine Arts, or Foreign Language (A minimum of 2 units of the same foreign language are required for college admission.) 4 units of electives

    9. To be promoted to 10th grade: You must earn 5 units including 1 unit of: English (9th Lit) Math (GPS Algebra or Accelerated Math I) Science

    10. Things to do: Do your best in your classes!!! Participate in clubs, sports, organizations & community work Create a portfolio of all activities/awards Begin preparing for the SAT or ACT Visit the Career Center Develop good study habits/study daily Keep a to-do list and calendar of events/projects

    11. H Honors & AP Courses It is highly recommended that students who wish to obtain admission to a “distinguished” 4-year college take Honors and AP level courses in high school. An AP course is the highest level course that a student can take while in high school. AP courses are taught at the college level. Students in AP courses have the opportunity to take an AP exam at the end of the course, which may allow them to earn college credit.

(Request via Counselor) Students can research : 4-year colleges & 2-year colleges Technical schools Financial Aid & Scholarships Careers Get online with GA College 411 and Career Cruising to match colleges & careers with your interests and needs

    13. It’s good to know . . . Ninth grade advisement Second semester of ninth grade Parents, students and teachers meet and make a four year course plan Grades are available online Students must accept more responsibility (checking grades, transcript, turning in work on-time, etc.)

    16. GPA Calculation “GPA” stands for “Grade Point Average”, which means that it averages out all of your FINAL grades. How to calculate it: First, take a look at your current or most recent grades. Each letter corresponds to a number of points: A: 4 points B: 3 points C: 2 points D: 1 point F: 0 points Divide points total by the number of classes you completed=GPA! Honors= extra .5 and AP= extra 1 quality point for 10-12 grade.
