WHO AM I? • Daniel Lim • Founder/CTO of ApplyMap • B.S. Mech. Eng., Yale University • M.S. Statistics, UCLA • C.Phil. Political Science, UCLA
Leaving High School… I thought I… … was HOT stuff … wanted to be an engineer … could do whatever, whenever, however I wanted to do it

My Yale Experience • Changed major 4 times • Got my butt kicked the first 2 years • Was involved in too many extracurriculars One of the BEST parts of my life. But…
What I Learned in College • Everyone has limits • You probably don’t know what you actually want • You will work harder than you ever thought possible
Life After College Clearly, I had no idea what I wanted to do
What do we do? • Figuring out where to apply to college is hard. • Our software finds the optimal set of colleges a student should apply to in order to minimize risk and maximize return.
Where did the idea come from? Work Problems/pain points School solutions in need of problems Solution / Commercial opportunity
Entrepreneurship I became an entrepreneur because I… ... wanted to work on something I’m passionate about ... saw a problem I am uniquely positioned to solve
The worst vice is advice, but… • It’s OK to be lost as long as you keep looking for direction • Look for lessons in every new experience • Don’t do what everyone else is doing just because.
