  2. Generic Structure of Report Text • The report text consist of: • general classification : describes the phenomenon in general. • Description : describes the phenomenon in details, in terms of: • Parts (and their function) • Qualities • Habit or behaviours

  3. Significant Language Features • Focus on generic participants, • Use of relational processes to state what and which it is, • Use of simple present tense (unless extinct) • No temporal sequence.

  4. Concept Mapping • In order to make a report text easier as a teacher we may use creative technique named concept mapping. • The steps of concept mapping are: • Teacher draw a map which consist of a circle in the center and some other circles around it. • Teacher write topic in the circle center • Teacher asks the students to mention words that related to the topic. • Teacher asks the students to make sentences from those words. • Teacher asks the students to make paragraph using those sentences. • Teacher help the students to arrange the paragraphs.

  5. Example Concept Mapping insect legs small wings bee black nectar colonies flower

  6. Bees Bees are insect. There are about 20.000 species or kinds of bees. They live everywhere in the world except on high mountains, in the arctic and Antarctic, and on some small islands in the ocean. Some bees are as small as 0.08 inch (2 millimeters). However, some bees are as big as 1.6 inches (4 centimeters). Bees come in many colours; black, gray, yellow, red, green or blue. Most bees live alone. They are called solitary bees. Meanwhile, some bees live in groups called colonies. They are social bees

  7. Bees have three pairs of legs and four wings. Like all insect they have a head, a chest, and abdomen. They have mouthparts and a tongue for collecting nectar. They carry nectar in an organ called a honey stomach. Moreover, bees have special wings that let them fly like a helicopter. They can fly backward, forward, sideways, or stay in one place in the air. In addition, bees have three regular eyes and two compound eyes. Their compound eyes have many lenses. Furthermore, bees can see colours and patterns. This helps them find flowers.

  8. Answer the following question to learn more about the text above. • Where do the bees live? • How many wings do the bees have? • What is the function of a honey stomach? • What does the word “nectar” in paragraph 3 mean? • What is the main idea of the third paragraph? • What is the special about bees wings? • Do you love bees or afraid of them? Why?

  9. Orangutans Orangutans are large, intelligent and solitary apes. They live in tropical rainforests on the island of Sumatra and Kalimantan. They are active during the day and spend much of their lives in the trees. Orangutans’ life span is about 35 years in the wilderness and about 60 years in the zoos. Orangutans have a large bulky body, a large head and a thick neck. Their body is covered by long, reddish brown hair. Their arms are very long and strong but their legs are bowed and short. They have no tail.

  10. On average female orangutans give birth only once every eight years. Orangutans are critically endangered species as their habitat is the greatest threat to their lives, such as forest fires and large companies which clear the way for plantations.
