  3. DAILY REQUIRED MATERIALS FOR READING • 1 inch English/reading binder (same one as English) • Agenda (has your character card and hall passes in it!) • Pencils (lots!!) red pens, paper, silent reading book, glue stick,, scissors and colored pencils • Composition notebook- 1 subject; NOT a spiral bound notebook; you will leave this in the room • Five tabs to place in your binder

  4. CLASSROOM RULES • Have all appropriate materials and supplies at your desk and be seated when class begins -make sure to check the board for what needs to be on your desk at the start of each class. • Use class time wisely - the first 10 minutes of reading is for novel time, and the first 10 minutes of English is for journal time. Please make sure you are reading or writing at the beginning of each class period. Make sure you are working on the task at hand until you are told otherwise. You are not dismissed until I dismiss you. • Show respect at all times – speak only when recognized; if the discussion is an open one you will know right from the start. If we are working in groups only your group should be able to hear you. Stay in your seat during instruction time. Respect everyone and everything in my classroom at all times. • Observe all rules in the student handbook listed in your agenda

  5. Important Extras • Paper Heading- The heading of your paper should always be in the top right hand corner and contain the following; first and last name, period number, assignment and date. • Give me 5- this is the method I use to get the attention of the entire class when we are working in partners or teams. The 5 stands for; eyes on me, ears listening, mouth closed, body still and hands free. • Were you absent?- I put my homework on my website at the end of each day. Please make sure that if you are absent you check the website out so that you aren’t overwhelmed when you return. I have a bulletin board in the classroom that will have the assignments for the entire month at a time, make sure this is the first place you go when you return. There will also be 2 folders marked reading or English, here you will find any handout or worksheets you missed while you were gone. Please make sure that you ask me as soon as possible if you have any questions after being absent. • Character Card-

  6. GRADING/HOMEWORK POLICY • Students’ grades are based on points earned for tasks completed in and out of class. The points are all added together for the final grade. Points are earned for class work, homework, participation, papers, projects, quizzes, notebooks, and tests. • If your work is not turned in when it’s due, you will be given a zero. If you do the work and turn it in the next day, you will be given half credit. • If you are absent, you will be given the amount of days you were absent to finish the work and turn it in. You can find what you missed on the homework website, classroom bulletin board, and by asking me before class. It will be YOUR responsibility to figure out what you missed, and YOUR responsibility to remember to turn it in!

  7. WEBSITE INFORMATION • Students will have access to my webpage through the Ankeney Middle School website. You can find my website by clicking on staff and scrolling down until you find my name. On my webpage you will find homework for the week, upcoming assignments, links to helpful websites, and more. (The teacher reserves the right to make changes in the schedule, assignments, tests, quizzes, and projects at any time as needed. In the event of a major change, students will be given notice.)
