  1. What are we going to fly on in the futureZilina – September 2010

  2. ----> - 1940 Aircraft History: what we have used to date 1940 - 1960 Aircraft & Simulator 1960 - 2010 Simulator & Aircraft 20xx - ???? ????

  3. PPL – Aircraft adequate - Day VFR . SE . ME - IFR – instrument training ? Simulator Is there a need for change and why ? Commercial - Larger aircraft - More complex - More than one crew member Creates use of simulators – significant benefits

  4. Working as a team Airline operations ---> Simulators More about operating than pure flying ---> Simulators ---> Simulators Complex systems and decision making ---> Simulators Cost

  5. What is the best method ? Are we / were we teaching in the Most effective way ? Are we teaching an aircraft or a concept / skill / procedure ? - Chosen tool must be able to demonstrate effectively - Focus on what information / skill we are trying to import

  6. Don't lose sight of the distinction - Learning to fly - Learning to operate The Alsim Philosophy Requirements - A mixture of aircraft and simulator - Focus on the information / Skill / procedure you are trying to teach and select the best tool - Representative versus specific A thorough understanding of all aspects of the aircraft operation through effective efficient training

  7. Use of modern technology - Specialist trainers: FMS, TCAS etc... - Visual - Motion Therefore what is the best equipment ? Technical knowledge - Mandatory PPL . CPL . ATPL - Airline requirements - Type Rating – Regulatory - Airline Operations – Voluntary ALL MUST BE COST EFFECTIVE WHILST RECOGNISING / SUPPORTING THE LEARNING PROCESS

  8. Skills - Aircraft / Simulator: essential but a/c must be able to effectively demonstrate the point in question. What is the best equipment CHOICE OF EQUIPMENT AND SYLLABUS NEED CAREFUL SELECTION

  9. The components How to achieve the best training ? Student selection: - Aptitude - Attitude - Capacity Tools: - Simulator - CBT - Classroom - Other New Technology Instructor quality: - Basic - Advanced - Airline Material: - Syllabus - Mandatory/Regulatory - Voluntary

  10. What will the future hold for flight training Conclusion ? To Date Technology has driven the changes in many respects and we believe will continue to do so for the future BUT Is technology alone the right driver for change ? Should we instead or as well be looking for innoative ways to improve the learning process ?
