  3. Product of Powers When two powers that have the same base are multiplied the base stays the same & the powers are added.

  4. Power of a Power When a power is taken to another power the base stays the same and the two powers are multiplied.

  5. Power of Product When a product is taken to a power each term of the original product is raised to the power.

  6. Quotients of Powers When two powers that have the same base are divided the base stays the same & the powers are subtracted.

  7. Power of a Quotient When a quotient is taken to a power both the numerator and the denominator are raised to that power

  8. Simplifying An expression should have the fewest number of exponents and variables as possible.

  9. Zero Powers Any number, except zero, to the zero power is defined as 1.

  10. Negative Powers Negative powers can be written as the reciprocal of a positive power. Negative powers in the numerator move to the denominator. Negative powers in the denominator move to the numerator.
