  4. Major vs. Minor Changes A major change in a serial requires a new record

  5. Minor Changes A minor change does not result in a new record but may require revision of the record, e.g., by adding a variant title note and added entry (field 246)

New record Corporate Body (Revised) The name of the same corporate body is added or deleted anywhere in the title, or the representation of the name is changed (e.g., from full form to acronym or in the fullness of the hierarchy presented). BUT If a major change in the name occurs, make a new record. If another corporate body name is added or substituted, make a new record.

  25. Words in a List--Guidance • Does the title include a list? To be a list, the RI says there need to be 3 or more terms • Are the changes significant enough to be considered a major change because there is a significant change in subject matter?

Fluctuating Titles • Two or more titles proper are used on a serial according to a regular pattern • Includes: • Language of title varies with text language • Deliberate variations • Some title flip-flops (retrospectively) • Titles of short duration (retrospectively) • But, take ISSN into consideration!

  32. Minor Numbering • All changes in numbering are minor • Even when numbering sequence repeats, no new record is made • Harmonization with ISSN New!
